Analysts Take Shots At Surprise Buick Debut For 2016 NAIAS

It’s nearly upon us: the 2016 North American International Auto Show. Last year, Buick made an incredible splash with the gorgeous Avenir show car, and the brand is looking to have a repeat of excitement.

Buick will hold an off-site event in Detroit, where it will debut the 2016 Envision crossover and a second, surprise vehicle. Pushing for more information, we were told the brand does not count the Envision as its reveal, seeing it already revealed the crossover last month.

Additionally, we were told, “[Buick] wouldn’t hold a large event just to disappoint everybody,” from a spokesperson for the brand.

The Detroit News recently compiled thoughts from various analysts to pinpoint what Buick could show. A 2017 Buick Enclave seems likely, especially knowing GMC will show an all-new 2017 Acadia, but there are other options.

Regal and Verano have gone very long in the tooth, so it’s quite likely we could see something on the sedan front to followup the Avenir concept. Remember, Buick also has a few trademarks hiding in the shadows, too, with Velite, Avista and Regal TourX.

We don’t have much longer to speculate but, in the meantime, discuss what you want to see from Buick in the comment section below.

  2. An all-new Enclave seems like a given. I hope it’s something beyond that—a new Regal (or TourX wagon) would be nice, or an up-level version of the Chevy Bolt.

    1. I haven’t seen a single Enclave test mule testing with the new GMC Acadia, so I don’t have a clue.

  3. A few auto shows ago Buick showed a 2-door concept ( can’t remember the name ) . What would really suprise everyone would be a full size luxury 2-door coupe with the Velite name . A Riveara replacement if you will .
A niche car for sure , an Avenir with 2 doors !
Here come the thumbs down but hey , its hump day , a person can dream .

    1. Nice idea but which platform would they use to do it?

  4. A coupe would be fantastic. While not the most popular segment, it is niche white space Buick needs to cover.

    1. I like the white space idea. That has been Buick’s thing over the last 4 years or so.
If it a coupe they would have limited options for platforms to use though. Because it is a niche vehicle they would have to do it on an existing platform to have any chance of making a business case.

  6. Just read an article in Autonews that says the 2 vehicles Buick will introduce the Envision and a 2 door sports coupe that is about the size of a Camaro.

The source is unconfirmed but interesting if it’s turns out to be true.
