Watch GMC #OurUAE Series Episode 2 – Sharjah: Video

On the second episode of the GMC #OurUAE mini-series,  Mohammad and Majed set off to explore Sharjah by visiting the classic car collection of the Sharjah Car Museum, checking out a rally racing competition, and going for a ride on The Eye. If you’ve already enjoyed watching the first episode, and don’t want to re-watch the introduction, you can to skip it by jumping ahead to 1:17 (intro begins at about 0:35).

Before setting off on their adventure, Mohammad and Majed determine who gets to drive the Sierra 3500HD first this time; in a way that we’re all sure to be familiar with – a game of rock, paper, scissors.

The first stop is the Sharjah Car Museum, which was established in 2008 as told by Salman Ahmed Al Salman, the official spokesman of the museum. Salman also tells us that there is a rotating collection of 100 cars, meaning that cars change from time to time. One of the vehicles is a retired military car that was originally used as a taxi cab. We also see a pristine, classic, bullet-proof 1970s Mercedes-Benz limousine that belongs to Sheikh Sultan, a member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and ruler of Sharjah since 1972.

After the museum the scene cuts to a Chevrolet Colorado – which it can barely be described as at this point – tearing through desert sand. The driver is Rally Racing Champion Ali Abdulla Al-Shawi, who is also the founder of the Emirates Motorplex. Our two hosts have the privilege of sitting in the award-winning race-truck.

After the sun has set, Mohammad and Majed along with youngsters Marwah and Essa all make their way to al Qasba, where an enormous ferris wheel called ‘The Eye of the Emirates” overlooks the province of Sharjah.

It’s interesting to see the similarities as well as the differences between the culture of UAE and that of the U.S. – we think these videos can be quite insightful, really. If you haven’t yet – sit back, relax, and enjoy the entertaining and educational video.
