It’s a story with a happy ending for one party, and a bittersweet ending for the other. The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports a 1964 C2 Corvette has been returned to its rightful owner after being stolen.
The thief, Jesse Chmelicek, reportedly stole the 1964 Corvette, and proceeded to the list the vehicle on Craigslist. Following the ad, Chmelicek was successful in finding a buyer, and sold the Corvette for $25,000.
When the pseudo-owner went to register the 1964 Corvette with the DMV, police were called to the scene after the vehicle came up as stolen.
Chmelicek was identified as impersonating the original owner of the vehicle, and was arrested on charges of auto theft, possession of stolen vehicles, grand theft, burglary, forgery and possession of methamphetamine.
The 1964 Corvette has since been returned to the rightful owner, though, the scammed buyer is now out $25,000.
