2016 Chevy Camaro SS Meets The Ford Shelby GT350 For A Battle Of Reborn Detroit Hustle: Video

We quite like the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS. So does the greater amount of the automotive media at large, apparent from its first few wins in comparison tests against its long-time rival, the Ford Mustang GT.

But, what happens when the more pedestrian 2016 Camaro SS meets the Ford Mustang’s bigger, flat-plane crank V8 outfitted big brother? That’s where Motor Authority has stepped in to answer the question.

While it may seem like the 2016 Camaro is being outgunned here, comparing a Ford Shelby GT350 to a mere Camaro SS, it’s a natural next step. The 2016 Camaro has, bluntly, dominated the Mustang GT in each matchup. So, it was time to see if kicking it up a notch could dethrone the 2016 Camaro SS.

Does it? That’s for you to watch above and find out for yourself.

  1. lol its great to know that they need a gt350 to compare to the SS in terms of driving dynamics. only means whatever track focused Camaro comes out will only be something insane. the Alpha bones and corvette powertrain is really a world class recipe, just excited to see what happens when they add some wider stickier tires, the ELSD, and a stiffer suspension.

  2. If the automotive journalists at M/A can’t make a clear decision about which they would rather drive between Ford’s best attempt at a Mustang Vs. a standard Camaro SS, that speaks volumes to me of how good the new SS is. Can’t wait for the 1LE option to hit the market. Chevy may not even need a Z/28 to knock the GT350R of its short lived pedestal.

  3. These media types like to play on the fence. The GT 350R is a great car but is it really worth the added price from an SS.

Now when the upper models of the Camaro appear the Mustang will looks like a even poorer value at that point.

Lets face it this year GM finally has the upper hand again in this segment and has taken the advantage for now. I do not expect Ford to remain idle but GM will have an even greater advantage as the Camaro is enjoying trickle down development from Cadillac. We all know Cadillac is spending even more money to make even better cars so this too will continue to help feed GM more advance chassis and other details.

Ford on the other hand have to pay the full load on Mustang development since they offer no other RWD cars. A real disadvantage in offering better cars at a Ford price.

    1. Agreed, Ford definitely is at a disadvantage as far as R&D since GM is able to utilize parts from Cadillac and the Chevy Corvette. GM engineers make some of the nicest handling cars on the road today so Ford will really have to step up their game as far as getting the Mustang up to par with the Camaro. The Voodoo V8 is a promising sign from Ford, but they may have to offer something like it in the GT to even compete with SS. God bless the USA though, I love the golden age of Detroit muscle/ performance cars these days!

  4. Nice Cadamarovette with Lancer tail lights. I think it’s a little disingenuous to make the comparison between the GT350 and the SS, but that’s fine–whatever makes you feel better. All cars have their good and bad points, but I don’t see much point in this particular comparison. This would be the first review by anyone that I’ve seen that says the GT350 feels big. While its dimensions are certainly bigger than the Camaro’s, I highly doubt that it feels like it when sitting in the driver’s seat (that’s based on reviews from fan boys on both sides of the aisle, so this particular review is displaying outlier bias).
