2016 Chevrolet SS Officially Priced At $46,575

Following news of the 2016 Chevrolet SS availability being pushed back to early 2016, we finally have concrete news from the brand on when we can expect the 2016 Holden VF Commodore Series II‘s yankee cousin. And we know how much it will cost for you to own the last rear-wheel drive, V8 powered sedan, courtesy of Holden.

The 2016 SS performance sedan will start at $46,575 plus a $995 destination fee. Taking only base prices, excluding destination, that shows a minor price jump of $830 from a base 2015 Chevrolet SS.

Once again, the SS will arrive fully loaded, with the only two options being a full-size spare tire for an additional $500, and a power sunroof for $900.

The 2016 SS adds a few enhancements over its Commodore Series I based cousin, including a new, bi-modal exhaust to help the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 clear its throat but cruise quieter, new 19-inch cast aluminum wheels distinct to the Chevy SS and a revised front fascia for greater aerodynamics.

When we reached out for comment, Chevrolet told us the very first shipment of 2016 SS performance sedans are currently en route from Australia as you read this, and should be arriving at dealerships soon.

In before “$50,000 for a Chevy???”

I hate the no-car buying public.

With the Aussie dollar down 30 % against the US dollar in the last year, they could have cut the price somewhat and still have a bigger margin. At the very minimum they could have cut it by the destination fee.

$995 destination fee doesn’t seem that bad it’s coming from the other side of the planet. what about the guy that lives in Kansas City and gets hit with the $875 destination. As seems like a hell of a lot for a car that’s built in Kansas City.

Just using the destination fee as an example of what they could have cut and still made a much bigger margin than they were a year ago when the Australian dollar was much higher than now.

Man this is such an awesome ride! With the new Malibu being near Impala-luxurious now, GM would be wise in turning the next Impala into the next SS Sedan! The resources are here to do so, and since Chevy has customers willing to drop big bucks for high-end models, then it should be no issue for them to sell a relatively affordable RWD Sedan!

I own a 2015 SS after driving Corvettes for many many years. No it is not a Corvette, but I am not 35 years old any more either. This is the most balanced and drivable sedan I have ever had the pleasure of owning. The Brakes have saved me several times, and the Safety features are beyond my wife’s Volvo! Magnetic Shocks are awesome and the automatic tranny is a real Hoot to drive with its rev matching downshifts. The motor will pull you to any speed limit as fast as you need to get there. This is a wonderful Vehicle and even at the new list price it is so equiped you just have to check them out and drive one to really understand what a fair deal it is. I only need the Supercharger option to be 100%.

ALL WHEEL DRIVE should be an option! If it was, it’d be in my garage!

Zeta platform does not support AWD. Been discussed in-depth in the past. An Alpha-based Impala could sustain that, however.

ummm, zeta does support AWD, it always did, designed that way from the start, the gfc stopped it from happening. Any in depth discussion you may have heard is incorrect

ha seriously? Making the Chevy SS AWD is equal to making the Chevy Camaro, Corvette and Ford Mustang AWD….there is no reason!!!

Any news on the Gas Guzzler Tax front? Rumor from my dealership is that the auto still get slapped with the $1300 GGT, but this year the manual will be subject to a $1000 GGT.

Auto will definitely get the $1,300 tax, haven’t asked on the manual myself.

There were no horsepower changes, but CAFE implementation by EPA may now apply to manual at the $1,000 level.

And this is the problem. GM policies/implementations hit the Chevy SS hardest. The 2015 has 40,000 more miles in warranty, which isn’t trivial considering the niche parts market from Oz. At least the G8 had more salvage units to pick from… and buying a 2015 even CPO means the gas tax has been paid.

Americans need to stand up and force the Government to get rid of the Gas Guzzling tax. It’s doesn’t force the Automakers to change their ways if the customer is willing to pay the tax. Just another B.S. Government regulation to help pay for our massive military budget

It’s gonna be sad when the SS is no longer available in about a year.

I own a 2014 that I bought for my wife’s daily driver. I was so impressed with car, and happy about the fact that manual was made available in 2015, that I have a 2016 on order. Got it in on the first day they were accepting. Scheduled build date was 18 Nov. Haven’t heard about a delivery date as of yet. Then, Lingenfelter here we come!!

Yes, I put an order in for a ’16 manual trans late in January, scheduled production in April. Can’t wait to get it. Had to depart with my ’10 Camaro SS manual but the SS is more versatile for work and play. And yes, I’ll be planning a trip to Indiana soon after I pass the break-in period. It’s going to be awesome!

Put the LSA or LT4 with a manual trans and I will trade my mint 04 GTO.
