Okay Corvette guys (and gals), plug your ears for this news. It seems, after Hennessey Performance Engineering slapped its 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS to the dyno, the latest pony car puts down more rear-wheel horsepower than its 2016 C7 Corvette Stingray brethren.
That, frankly, is shocking news. The 2016 Camaro SS is rated for 455 hp at the engine, but the dyno shows 431 of the hustling horsepowers find their way to the rear wheels, with 427 lb-ft of torque ushering the vehicle forward. In comparison, HPE tested a stock, seven-speed manual equipped 2016 C7 Corvette, which showed only 410 rear-wheel horsepower.
That means, with a little math, the 2016 Chevy Camaro SS is making closer to 500 hp at the engine to account for a loss at the crank. Yesterday, we also reported HP Motorsports dyno tested its own 2016 Camaro SS with nearly similar results: 420 rear-wheel horsepower.
Does this news only sweeten the deal? Yup. Check out the run yourself right up above.

Well thats nice the camaro has more rwhp but its still not a C7 Corvette!
More HP at the wheels to offset the extra weight. Either way, Nice to see GM stuffing underrated engines between the fenders again.
Funny how posting uncorrected or improperly corrected dyno pulls has created such a buzz the last few days.
Kyle It has been the norm for GM to under rate the engines in their cars. While their test may not be perfect I do believe the engine is underrated. Heck the Corvette test may be underrated too.
I look for a bump in HP next year and to be honest I expect little change in either engine. GM did this before several times.
When Ford got busted on the under powered Cobra Mustangs GM really has made sure to keep theirs over the posted numbers.
This isn’t the first time. GM refused to allow the Solstice GXP and Sky Redline hit 300 horsepower ratings with their Stage 2 tune. GMPD hence declared it a 290 hp tune. I’ve seen calibrated dynos that are around 299 with the GM tune. Clearly it was 10 less to satisfy marketing.
There was considerable fear that Sky would be sold alongside Camaro, and have more horsepower with an I4 than Camaro’s V6.
Of course, you can get 320+ horsepower out of a LNF/LTG/LHU and probably an LTG. But GM does underrate even with calibration, all the time.
I seriously doubt the engine horsepower of the Camaro SS is anywhere close to 500 though. Probably 475 or so.
First of all who gives a s***? the C7 weighs so much less than that other car. 1000 pounds is equal to 100 horsepower do your own math what an idiot for even writing this article
nobody with any knowledge of cars would write an article this stupid and biased without publishing the weights of both cars. Hillbillies getting excited over Dyno numbers. Wouldn’t be the first first guy I smoked claiming 800 horsepower to the rear wheels
