Those following our coverage of the 2017 Cadillac XT5 already know that the crossover is all-new from the inside out. It rides on an all-new C1XX platform, has an all-new exterior and an all-new interior, an all-new powertrain with a new advanced AWD system, and all kinds of other “all-new” elements, such as the suspension system.
Before delving into the XT5’s suspension system, it’s important to note that the crossover is 278 pounds (126 kg) lighter than the SRX it replaces thanks to a new lightweight structure that utilizes new and improved materials and advanced design methods. But the new structure isn’t only lighter, it’s also stiffer and stronger than that of the SRX. Together, the new structure joins forces with lightweight suspension components to deliver a solid and connected driver experience.
The front suspension design is a MacPherson Strut, while the rear utilizes an independent five-link suspension. In the front of the XT5’s underbody is a diagonal “A-frame” front chassis brace that enables a more solid feel for the driver as well as increased stiffness during turning maneuvers.
18-inch wheels are standard on the XT5, while 20-inch wheels are optional. The XT5 doesn’t offer Cadillac’s acclaimed Magnetic Ride Control, at least not on the 2017 model year vehicles, but models equipped with 20-inch wheels have the Continuous Damping Control system to manage ride control in real time. The system is similar to that used in the Buick Regal GS.
There are also additional ride bushings on the rear cradle that provide added ride comfort for rear seat passengers. The bushings are exclusive to the XT5 Platinum trim level.
We’re eagerly awaiting to drive the Cadillac XT5 and try out its new suspension system when it launches from GM’s Spring Hill plant in the spring of 2016.

While Cadillac’s XT5 won’t have the Magnetic Ride Control found in some of their top tier cars; one has to think the Continuous Damping Control system should be sufficient especially as the XT5 won’t be cruising over high road speeds and the Continuous Damping Control system is probably more affordable; but if Cadillac does decide to build a higher performance variant of the XT5, we could expect to see the Magnetic Rice Control being an option.
Is there two different grills for the XT5 ? Looks like it in the pics .
I hope that the component sourcing makes the XT5 the Most American made vehicle — that would be a much added boost in the marketplace worth as much as any feature or incentive
