General Motors Europe Market Share Drops To 7.3 Percent In September 2015

General Motors experienced a slight drop in market share in September 2015 in the European Union, losing 0.3 percentage points for a market share of 7.2 percent. The drop comes despite GM increasing sales volume 5.8 percent to 97,689 units in September.

The reason for the drop can be explained by the fact that GM’s 5.8 percent sales growth rate in September — furnished by the Opel and Vauxhall brands — was lower than the industry’s 9.6 percent growth rate, resulting in 1,279,526 vehicles sold.

Note: the drop of 0.3 percentage points in market share is the result of GM’s continued withdrawal of the Chevrolet brand from Europe’s mainstream segments. Not counting Chevrolet, Opel-Vauxhall market share was down 0.2 percentage points.
