Dealers Simply Can’t Wait For The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is one clamored for product, and that has been reiterated in the latest report from Edmunds.

Dealers have had quite a bit of interest for the sixth-generation muscle coupe from Chevrolet, though, product is only now beginning to slowly trickle into dealers nationwide. General Motors has just begun shipping the 2016 Camaro SS and Camaro LT models with the 3.6-liter LGX V6 engine. Camaros equipped with the 2.0-liter LTG turbo-four will begin shipping in March.

Dealers say many 2016 Camaro orders are currently on quality control hold, something Monte Doran, Chevrolet spokesman, said is typical of any new product launch. The 2016 Camaro just happens to be a very sought after vehicle currently.

“This is done out of an abundance of caution, to ensure the cars are as close to perfect as they can be before leaving the plant,” Doran said. “We understand, for customers who have a Camaro on order, it can be frustrating knowing their car has been built, but is not yet in their driveway. However, this is also the best way to ensure the car they have waited for exceeds their expectations.”

Dealers also say they have high hopes with the car to bring in plenty of new showroom traffic, and consumers have already been abuzz asking about the car.

“We have a lot of action on it,” Frank DeBartolo, sales manager at Bredemann Chevrolet in Park Ridge, Illinois, said. “We already have pre-sold orders. Being a new body style I’m sure it will do great. Style is what first initially sells and the style is definitely there.

  1. The 2016 Camaro, Malibu, Cruze, Volt…. and so on, and so on. Dealers surely cannot be thrilled about having very few 2016 offerings to show potential customers. Other companies will be releasing 2017 products by the time GM has a decent number of their 2016 line on showroom floors.

    1. ofcourse. GM needed to have at least one of the new 2016 generation vehicles ready to roll by early Fall of 2015 to get the buzz going. Even if they needed to throw a bit more resources at it to get it out there.
THis would have maybe paid off in the long run.
It would have had consumers talking and awaiting the other new vehicles.
Instead it’s late November 2015 and finally the Camaros are rolling in.

  3. Well staggered starts are the norm at most MFG anymore with new platforms. Also slow start ups are the new norm too as it leads to higher quality overall.

The dealers will be fine and the 2017 cars are just early 2017 cars that could also be called a 2016 1/2. The years are like the old is the glass half empty or half full? In the end it is all the same.

    1. Scott3, it’s easy for me to sit back and analyze GM’s decisions as I am not in the think of it like they are.
But it seems that if the General could have gotten one of the new generation Chevy’s on the lot by early Fall such as the Malibu or Cruze, they could have gotten some consumers talking. (I’m saying throw more resources at getting one new gen done)
Even if the consumers are in the dealership also have the brochures (as much info that is current at that time for the cars) ready so even if some one is shopping they could take them home and look at em and still have the car on their mind for a future purchase.
      my scenario would be:
      – get the 2016 new generation Malibu (or you pick Cruze, Camaro) on Lot by Fall 2016
-have brochures for the other new generation cars that are coming out. or even one general brochure with the pics and as much info available at the time of the new generation Cruze, Camaro, Volt.
-now some consumers will be driving the 2016 new gen Malibu so other ppl are seeing it on the road. then maybe stop in the Chevy dealerships and then become aware other new gen Chevys will be out soon.

When I went into the Chevy dealership to have my car serviced early November… the salesman had no clue when the Camaro was going to arrive- he was saying Jan 2015 (which I laughed to myself as I knew it would be sooner.)
The lack of knowledge at the dealerships (and it’s not only at Chevy) is terrible. The other guy had no clue that the Chevy SS was previously the Pontiac G8 in NA…actually the buffoon had no idea Pontiac was now defunct…LOL and that was at a GM dealership!!!!

Most consumers do not have any idea the General is coming out with some new generation vehicles this year.
