Can The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS Perform A Burnout?: Video

It’s about time to answer the age old question; something every gearhead wonders from the time of a car’s inception. Can it do a burnout?

In the case of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS, yes, yes it can.

Motor Authority recently took delivery of its 2016 Camaro SS for Chevrolet’s Find New Roads campaign, and decided to conduct a very scientific test to see if the Camaro SS was capable of producing billowy smoke. The conclusions were quite good albeit, not very scientific.

Still, these are the results we like to see. Smokey tires, and a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine burbling and revving away. Well done, gents.

  1. I can do a better one with my Tahoe

  2. It always puzzled me how some folks get off on burn outs.

I was always trained in racing to fight spinning the tires as it only slows you down. I worked too hard to make them hook up to gain an advantage. Even today I still work hard to try to get the max acceleration and not spin.

Besides today tires are too expensive.

Also most slicks today do not need a big burn out anymore. Compounding has come a long way at the track.

    1. Scott it’s the same folks that put the super loud exhausts on a Harley motor cycle.
The empty cans make the most noise.

      1. I see noise as a different thing as it does not harm performance or cost a lot useless ware.

I may be older today but even back in the day my burn outs were limited. I grew up learning about cars by working as a crew member in racing and we worked hard to not spin as we lost races that way.

Even today I wish I could get better traction with my FWD Turbo. It is at times hard to put the traction down even with power robbing launch control.

        1. A burnouts purpose is showmanship. It poses no benefit other than some primitive fun and look at me factor, just like bright color paint jobs. Before anybody gets a hard on I’m not talking about slicks, I’m talking street tires. I’ve stomped the gas in my Trans Am to spin em but I’m not power braking it in town. Just a little screech to wake up the other drivers.

          1. God you put such a romantic Hemmingway sounding twist to this.

Showmanship, Pimitive Fun and Look At Me Factor?

That is the same thing that fuels the idiots on YouTube riding a rail till they land on their nuts or the guy planting a new Z06 into a tree.

I know we have all done it including myself but if honest it is just immaturity no matter how you verse it. No right no wrong just immaturity.

If you want to pay for the tires, have at it as I pull head one rotation diameter for every rotation of spin you do.

Speaking of showmanship I saw two idiots in Honda’s with fart can exhaust last night doing some showmanship. They must have not seen the police car I had just parked behind and on their right when they had some primitive fun.

I think he had a nice long talk with them on the evils of showmanship in a public parking lot. LOL!

We did that too but a least we looked for cops first. LOL!.

You want to do something worthy of showmanship do a bootleg turn and at least show some real skill. It also is good for learning car control vs. just cooking the hides.

I feat the new SS may not even do a bootleg anymore with all the electronic aides. GM at least has been pretty good letting you shut them off vs. others.

            1. I didn’t say burnouts required skill nor did I say they’re never done by idiots who get people killed. Just because you do things different doesn’t mean the people who are responsible with automobiles that do burnouts are inferior to you.

              Reply
              1. Not Stupid, Not Skilled, Not Dead……..Not even inferior.

Now if you want to say immature you are accurate of how I see it.

Now if you can give me some good logical reasons for doing this that server some kind of good reason for doing it I may think different but at this point I have not seen a good reason.

I am no smarter than most but there are those in society that work real hard making us average guys look real good.

    2. Without fail you come across yet again as a party pooper/spoil-sport. It’s just showin off man! I will and have laid 200ft burnouts for no other reason than the road was clear and somebody screamed “light-em up”. Nothing more than just goo old automotive fun.

And yes, contrary to popular opinion (mostly from those who have no clue how to do a proper one) burnouts do require a certain amount of practice and skill…especially rolling burnouts, and powerslides. Both of which get most people in trouble with ‘ass hat’ accidents or unintentional run-ins with immovable objects.

Heck, buy your logic, racing is dumb, so is modding a car in the first place. Real talk, NONE of what enthusiast do with cars is actually conductive or a good use of time or money. It’s just fun and in your blood. Sometimes there’s nothing more to understand.

      1. No racing is fine. Modding a car is fine.

The truth is I make my living in the performance aftermarket and I deal with parts people break. Most
times it was doing something they should not be doing.

To me I know from being trained and educated on how to do things how to do it right. Then I get some guy who goes out and does this stuff and gets it all wrong while as you say having fun. Then he calls and complains he broke it car and it is a defective part. He then lies about how he did it as you can look at the part knowing he screwed it up.

To be honest seeing people do stuff like this or worse at times is like watching someone hit themselves over the head with a hammer because they think it is fun. You know they are doing damage but they just don’t have enough sense of in this case maturity to know better.

Then they end up with a car they can’t drive because they screwed it up and can’t afford to repair.

I just loved the guy who took a Mustang V6 out and took the speed limiter off. He thought lets go see how fast it will go. But wait is there anything else that needs upgraded before you go make that cool fun run. Naw we are good or so he thought.

Well there was a nice video of him on the web as the in car Go Pro got the driveshaft going through the floor. What made it worse was I heard the dealer did not cover it when he tried to claim it and for warranty.

There are some who can handle performance and many who are in over their heads anymore. What is worse they too often will not even take responsibility when they screw up.

Years ago people handled this much better and most when they broke something they just fixed it and accepted it as part of the deal.

The problem is years ago to go fast you had to know what you were doing as there were few bolt on parts or cars that were all that fast from the dealers like today. Yes todays cars are much faster than what the 60’s did for the most part outside a few rare models.

Today so many bolt on parts that have no clue and or buy a car just because they have the money.

Anyways doing a burnout if you are John Force and getting paid for it or winning a NASCAR Race and getting the winnings that is one thing but to just go out in front of a bunch of kids doing a burn out is just kind of a waste.

A friend who had a 440 Duster that looked pretty much stock down to the orange Valve Covers used to win a lot of races. I asked how and he showed me. He could launch with all the motor as he had soft M&H tires and an slightly altered wheelbase. That car would not spin the tires. He would run folks who would just spin and he would get 4-5 car lengths they would never make up and win the cash every time. No real trick or anything else. He was the king of the street and did not even have more HP than many. Now that was impressive and he had a rep that was much greater than any one doing some burn out.

Also what was really cool was the left front tire off the ground on a street car when he launched.

By the way the real racers do not think much of some of the silly people doing burnouts on the street. They think pretty much as I do. They for the most part are of the nature of act like you have had a fast car before.

FYI If they wan to do it that is fine as I make a lot of money off them doing silly things. Broken parts and worn tires for no reason make for good profit sharing.

Some of them learn and wise up and some never do and we just keep ringing them up LOL!

My whole point is burn outs to me are not all that impressive. Now you show me a car with 600 HP and it launches with all 600 HP reaching the ground and not putting the tires up in smoke that is impressive. We sell parts to do that and many buy them and they are the ones who win and do not break anything.

It is what it is and we do not have to agree as there is no right or wrong. Just the way you see it and the way I see it.

  3. Can the 2016 Camaro perform a burnout? Get the fuck out of here with that lame shit. Like we, your audience, are a bunch of rampant chimps that know nothing about a car beyond its ability to spin the wheels and create smoke. “Oh, hey guys, this car can do a burnout. It’s legit. No need to discuss it further.” I guess next you’re going to “rev it up” and hear that “good ol’ ‘merican V8”, huh? Geez, never seen a video of a Camaro burnout before. What’s next, cats doing funny stuff?
