2016 Cadillac CTS Now Offers Standalone V-Sport Package On 2.0T I4, 3.6L V6 Models

Cadillac has quietly added a new V-Sport Package to the 2016 CTS Sedan, GM Authority has discovered.

Not to be confused with the actual 2016 CTS V-Sport with the 3.6L Twin-Turbo V6, the $2,465 package is available on the “standard” 2016 CTS Sedan with the 2.0T I4 and 3.6L V6 engines, and includes the following features:

  • 18″ V-Sport Midnight Silver premium painted aluminum wheels
  • 18″ summer-only, run-flat tires
  • Sport suspension
  • Magnetic Ride Control
  • V-Sport Brake Package
  • V-Sport badged steering wheel

Until now, the only way to get the equipment included in the package was to equip the third-gen CTS with the 3.6L Twin-Turbo V6. As such, the package essentially produces a CTS V-Sport powered by the more pedestrian 2.0L Turbo and 3.6L V6 motors, rather than the more powerful 3.6L TT V6.

It’s available with the following configuration restrictions:

2016 Cadillac CTS Sedan without V-Sport package

  1. Great idea to have the V-Sport appearance package of sorts. This will increase the ATPs on these models.

Still patiently waiting for full ATS V-Sport version although as the months pass without word of one I suspect we will have to wait until gen 2.

    1. Agreed, Dave — it’s great to see Cadillac offer V-Sport as a free-flow option. It’s also great that it brings more than just appearance-related items, including upgraded suspension and interior bits. I would have personally liked to have seen it (and the actual V-Sport model) also include some differentiation on the outside, such as a slightly more aggressive front and rear ends, and perhaps some sills to give the car a bit of a lower appearance. Nevertheless, it’s a good start.

Like you, still hoping for a V-Sport treatment of the ATS. If it doesn’t happen for 2016 MY, it could always happen for 2016.5 or a bit later for 2017.

      1. Yes the V-Sport Package has substance which is appreciated . It is more than just a few trim pieces added on and calling it a special edition (take note Chevrolet and GMC ).

As for a V-Sport ATS I strongly believe that if it doesn’t bow at the New York Auto Show using the current models appearance that Cadillac will use the NYIAS to show off a refreshed ATS as a 2017.
Consider that the ATS is entering it’s 4th model year and that there is increased competition coming from the new XE, Q50 (with C Class guts , 3 Series, coming C-Class, A4, etc. very soon.

It is due for a freshening.

  2. What would really make Cadillac buyers interested would be the option for Brembo carbon ceramic brakes as while they say the steel brakes don’t fade; tests have shown they do fade if used hard.

    1. Do you mean as part of this V-Sport package or as part of the the actual CTS V model ?

  3. Not surprising, GM will try just about anything to get sales moving on the CTS. If you want the V-sport, the smart move is to simply find a nice used one with the 3.6L TT. Although a bit hard to find, you will end paying in the low to mid $40’s for a very well equipped car and avoid the massive depreciation hit. The new generation CTS is one of the worst new cars you can buy with regard to depreciation, with some rating only the Hyundai Genesis worse.

  4. A large number of people who buy a midsized luxury sedan lease them so the ‘buy a used one ‘ can’t really work.

I didn’t know about the depreciation thing though.

    1. Why do you think depreciation is so high, LFX? Do you think it’s related to demand of the CTS on the used market?

    2. You are correct, many do lease these cars, which is a big part of the sales struggle for the CTS. When the new car arrived and returning lessee’s were bringing back their previous gen CTS, they found the car was bigger and more expensive. Cadillac had a lease for them in the same price range, but for the smaller ATS with a 4 cylinder. Many of these folks moved on and Cadillac seemed fine with that, convinced the new car would appeal to a new group of customers? Most of those folks are “MIA”. Whatever the case the CTS now has lots of lease incentives, bonus cash, etc…but obviously a significant chunk of the business is gone as sales numbers for this car are at the lowest levels since the introduction of the nameplate back in the early 2000’s.

  5. Frankly if I were looking to purchase a CTS, something that is fairly unlikely, I would have interest in only the Magnetic Suspension and nothing else in the package. I believe the brake package is described on Cadillac sites as appropriate for those that want to track their vehicles–really doubt many with 2.0 turbo, or normally aspirated 3.6 are going to have any interest in “tracking” their cars. However, there is no doubt the Mag Suspension has quite an advantage even in daily use.

Then again, typical GM, wanting to sell you something you don’t want or need in a package deal.

  6. This is such a good move, please do it with the ATS! All the other manufacturers offer something similar. As much as I want a v series or just a v it is not practical and really not usable in Ontario where you go 20 K over you could lose your car. But I love a sporty look as to so many other young drivers. We just took delivery of the ATS midnight special edition. I have not seen any other ones on the road but man oh man I’m happy with my decision! It looks so good in the trim package, it stands out completely from every other ATS and looks like a monster. The 3.6 has an amazing growl compared to my 2 L turbo toO.

I told Cadillac they should push these to the dealers as the younger generation folks are drooling over my car. That and the bloody LEDs on every single ATS that goes out the door, just like all the competition do

    1. Nice choice. The midnight package should be a regular option on all ATSes, rather than being available only as a special edition.

And yes, make LEDs standard on all ATSes as well. And give the 2.0L the same sound enhancement as the 3.6, which I believe is enhanced via speakers.

    2. Agree, the ATS should offer at least the lower LED lighting on the base 2.5 and on 2.0t/3.6 full LED and HID no matter what packages. nice lighting, and nice wheels sell cars. Cadillac should have been doing this since day 1 with both the ATS and CTS although the CTS gets standard LED lighting in any trim, but then they give you those cheesy 17 inch dull wheels that aren’t attractive. BMW offers M sport packages on lower 3 series models, audi s packages, Mercedes amg packages etc.

  7. I REALLY want one of these!!! Especially one configured with AWD and the 3.6L! This is something Cadillac should’ve offered from the start!
