The New Chevrolet Equinox Has Quick Reflexes: Ad Break

One new technological innovation that you’ll find in the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox – and not the rivaling Ford Escape – is the Front Collision Alert safety feature that seems to intrigue everyone in this video.
The new safety feature detects when the vehicle is getting too close to the car in front of it, and alerts the driver of an imminent collision. This is not to be confused with Front Automatic Braking, which “automatically applies the brake when the system may see a crash situation ahead before you do, and can be thought of us a “backup” or “Plan B” if you do not respond quickly to Forward Collision Alert warnings.” Note that this is not a standard feature of the Equinox.
One thing you’ll notice in the video is that one of the participants was able to catch not only one egg, but two eggs. That being said, is the inclusion of such technology the ideal answer to lack of driver attentiveness? Should the focus be more on teaching drivers how to ignore distractions and pay closer attention to the road, or is this a hopeless cause thanks to the intertwining of modern day tech (read: cell phones)?
Tell us what you think of this Chevrolet advertisement and our posed questions after you’ve viewed the slightly humorous video.

Now if they could only kill all the false alerts and things that make one turn it off.
This system was the first thing my wife asked if we could shut it off. It is horrible on curves and other odd times where it picks up a false signal and scares the crap out of you because you are paying attention and there is nothing there.
My recommendation is put the damn cell phone down.
I had a 2013 Equinox with this in it, the display was scratched from factory, looked horrible in the sun, they replaced it , new one was all scratchy too, I just replaced the display with the plain non fcw and ldw one, always turned collision warning off, was to annoying….
I just bought a Murano with tech package that has the forward auto braking and I love it! When a car suddenly made a left turn across my nose from the far right lane, it braked before I could even start pressing down on the brake pedal. FCW is useless, you don’t need a warning if you’re paying attention! You DO need something that can brake faster than human reflexes can!
Hate to say it but automated vehicles are going to basically take over most driving responsibilities . The pioneer Google car is only a start of what is to come . For many who has lost loved ones to drunk drivers or those who were high on drugs or guilty of, distracted driving from texting or phone calling etc ,,,,, automated vehicles will be a godsend !
The carnage caused by vehicle accidents is unbelievable and often if the accident did not kill ,, the many thousands of injured may never be fully regain full use of bodies or minds and be a source of anguish of those care givers/families , dealing with the consequences on a daily basis .
The wording of the commercial bothers me. “It’s hard to prepare for something when you’re not ready.” He should have said “respond to” instead of “prepare for.”
