Shanghai GM Launches 2016 Cadillac ATS-L In China

General Motors’ Chinese joint venture launched the 2016 Cadillac ATS-L compact sport-luxury sedan in China on October 12th, 2015. The extended-wheelbase, China-only ATS-L delivers more room in the rear seat along with several updates to the already-popular vehicle, including:

The 2016 ATS-L’s modernly-styled exterior is offered in these five colors:

  • Neon
  • White Magic
  • Crystal Gray
  • Cedar
  • Golden Grapefruit

Inside, the 2016 ATS-L offers a choice of three color combinations, including:

  • White Rice
  • Magenta
  • Sandalwood

The spacious and comfortable interior has high-grade leather and luxurious suede finishes with cut-and-sewn master craftsmanship and exquisite hand-wrapped double French stitching. Bose active noise cancelling technology supports a quiet interior while the second-generation Bose Centerpoint surround sound system provides a home theater experience.

The ATS-L Sedan is based on a stretched-wheelbase version of GM’s Alpha platform. For 2016, it is available in three trim levels priced from RMB 288,800 to RMB 428,800 ($45,536 to 67,588 USD). It is targeted at younger car buyers in China’s mainstream luxury sedan segment.

  1. Does this car make sense to anybody…why not just buy the CTS????

    1. It’s a Chinese thing. There are stretched-wheelbase variants of nearly all compact and midsize luxury sedans, including those from Caddy, Benz, Audi, and BMW. Owners of these cars get driven around in the back seat rather than drive them themselves… and a CTS is too expensive for those looking to buy in the compact segment.

  2. This looks really good! GM should scrap the current ATS for the IUS and build this instead!

AS for those saying that this is simply a CTS in all but name, note that the CTS is just under ten inches longer and has a longer wheel-base:

    ATS-L CTS
    Wheelbase 112.6 114.6

    Length 186.2 195.5

So there is no reason why an ATS-L shopper would deem the bigger, more expensive CTS a substitute.
