After dropping out of his presidential campaign, former Texas Governor Rick Perry has decided to go for a road trip in his 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. According to this Mashable article, on Sunday morning, Perry started on his journey from California to Texas, along with his pal Tommy Orr, a fellow Texas A&M alumnus. Earlier this year, Perry had told the Round Top Register that his dream car is a “1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport. 396.”
Seems like he’s having fun, and that’s exactly what his spokesman told the press, that the road trip “is just for fun…” We bet it’s a good time, that piece of old-school muscle looks to be in great shape. We wonder if there are any goodies under the hood, or if the stock 240 horsepower rated 396-cubic-inch V8 engine is still sitting there at stock specs.
Say what you will about his political career. Like Vice President Joe Biden, the Perry’s got solid taste in American muscle.

It should be a 402. Nice ride.
It would’ve still been called a 396.
Few errors here.
“the stock 270 horsepower rated 392-cubic-inch V8 engine is still sitting there at stock specs.”
It’s a 396, not a 392. This ain’t Chrysler Authority.
The 396 only had 240 horse in 72. It was the 454 that had 270.
Thanks for this Hoffa, the source stated a 392ci and it slipped me up.
Shit happens man.
I gotta admit, the 1968-1970 charger and the 1970-72 Chevelle really wore vinyl tops well.
