The newly developed Touring Car Racing series may be fresh, but that isn’t stopping Opel from bringing out one hell of an Astra for its customers. Opel has given us a better look at its Opel Astra TCR, being designed specifically for the racing series.
The Astra touring car will be unveiled at the TCR presentation, scheduled to be held on the Circuit Jules Tacheny in the Belgian town of Mettet on October 15, 2015. Opel says the Astra TCR has been developed with Opel Motorsports, and will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Power is said to be roughly 330 hp, and the brand says a “string of technical highlights” will be unveiled during the conference.
Interestingly, the brand says a 2.0-liter will be in place for this vehicle, but a 1.6-liter turbo is expected for the next Astra OPC, according to recent remarks.
TCR launched in 2015 for professional customer racing teams, and utilizes at three-tier concept. This allows a TCR to race internationally, as all leagues have the same rules and regulations.
