Opel today is looking back on what it calls a ‘picture perfect’ FIA European Rally Cahmpionship (ERC) season in 2015. This year marked the first time in 33 years an Opel driver had won an ERC Championship, with Swedish driver Emil Bergkvist winning the Junior Championship at the wheel of his Opel Adam R2.
Bergkvist, along with his teammate Marijan Griebel, both “impressively demonstrated the abilities,” of the Adam R2 this year, Opel says, with Bergkvist adding that he has “no doubt,” the Adam R2 is the best racing car in its class. The car took drivers to victory in four of the six FIA ERC rounds this year and has won 62 of the 99 events it has been entered in since 2014.
Both Bergkvist, and Griebel earned their spot on the Opel works rally team by winning championships in the one-make ADAC Opel Rallye Cup. This year, the winner of the series is 25-year old Julius Tannert, who has now earned himself a spot on the the 2016 ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team as a result. He described the opportunity as a “dream come true.”
