Over the last few months, we have brought you all kinds of reports and rumors, including some hard-hitting order guide information, about a V-Sport variant of the Cadillac ATS. At this point, Cadillac has yet to announce or even confirm plans for an ATS V-Sport, but that isn’t stopping us from asking what would like to see from such a vehicle.

It’s an interesting question, do they go with a detuned twin turbo 3.6 and risk creeping up on the V? Or the opposite, how about a tweaked up 2.0 liter turbo with AWD and the option of a manual? In its basic trim 420hp 3.6 in the CTS VSport might be too close to the 464hp ATS-V, the NA 3.6 is already 320hp and the 2.0 turbo is 272hp so where would the VSport fit in. A 400hp 3.6 TT with the option of either the 6 speed manual or the 8 speed auto would be a good basic start.
It would be interesting if they gave the VSport the option of 2 engines maybe, with the choice of either RWD or AWD? Basic ATS VSport would come with an enhanced 2.0, tuned up to 330-340hp and then the option of a de-tuned 3.6 TT making 400-410?
AWD would be excellent!…what that hardware might require with respect to motor configuration is the question.
Cadillac’s LGX when used by the upcoming CT6 supposedly will make 355 horsepower or about as much as GM’s L83 5.3L Ecotec3 V8; but if Cadillac wants something in the 400 horsepower range for the ATS V-Sport, there’s only two options which would be the upcoming LGW 400 horsepower twin-turbo 3.0L V6 that is scheduled for the CT6 or they can go with the ZZ6 5.7L V8 that makes 405hp @ 5600 rpm.
Wishful thinking, but there is no way they would put a V8 of any kind in the V sport, when the top spec ATS-V make do with a twin turbo V6. A twin turbo 3.0 V6 with about 100hp less than the ATS-V and both AWD and RWD is the only way to go
I hope they keep the exterior same as the V except for the wheels I guess. They should keep the V grille rather how the cts vsport keeps the base grille.
Power train – I wonder if the 3.0 TT would fit in the ats. Other then that AWD would be great it may not be that important some places but here in your north it’s a real deal breaker sometimes.
I just hope they don’t put a 4-banger in it. 6 cylinders minimum.
I like to see a 3.0TT with 360 horses and 360 lbs. feet of torque. which would be nice. The grill don’t have to change necessarily, as long it is different from the rest of the line-up and V Series I don’t mind, but have different rims and have V-Sport logos in the rear deck of the car.
The car would be a little bit more powerful than the NA 3.6 and would be evident but not as powerful like the V Series ATS.
AWD must have.
6 cylinders minimum, perhaps a detuned twin turbo, or single turbo in a hot-v. Same chassis improvements as the -V. Just like the Mercedes AMG 400 is made from the same chassis as the C63. Rear-drive please.
I’ve always been a fan of 8 cylinders. How about a normally aspirated 6.2 like in the Corvette? Probably not happening……..
I think at this time around the Vsport would just be a appearance/suspension package for the ATS….. It just doesn’t make sense if they put a twin turbo 3.6 under the hood since that’s what the V version already has…. Unless they detune the engine
The 5.3 V8 engine with a twin turbo and the AWD
First off some of you need to understand if the V series does not have a V8 option you are not going to get it here. If a V8 does happen it will be over the V series and it will be a big price. Sorry for the dose of reality.
I suspect this car will get some form of the TT V6 detuned.
AWD could be an option but it will add much to the price. I really would like to see them add AWD to the V series cars but with the power it too would add much to the price and I am not sure how much it would add to the lap times. The computer tuning is already doing a great job and at a much better reduction of weight. Only the 0-60 times and 1/4 mile would improve a little.
This is what I expect. Some of the V Series tuning with a lower powered engine. It will give you the handling dynamics over the base model but not the V performance in full and or the price.
I expect this model to be expanded upon with the coming investment and any V sport now is just s bridge to the future model.
Much in the ATS and CTS will change in the next few years and many of the complaints will be addressed and they will come with the name change.
Now I do not expect this but a Turbo 4 with 350-375 HP would be interesting. Less mass and as much torque as the V6 would be fun. It is doable as the Eco can handle up to 400 with no internal mods. It is just a matter of will for GM.
Also at this price point man will expect two more cylinders.
A turbo 4 doesn’t make any sense Scott. The whole idea of the V sport is to compete with the huge and profitable middle ground of the market that want performance, AWD, but not the brutal car that the V, AMG and M represent. The big hitters in this segment are BMW 340, Audi S4, C450 AMG and upcoming Jaguar XES. It has to be a turbo 6 of some sorts. I think borrowing and detuning a version of the 3.6 in that ATS-V would be a mistake, this car needs a 3.0TT, and then cadillac should retire the N/A 3.6 currently in the ATS
A 5.3 bi turbo with +500hp for the ATS/V while the Vsport would use the 3.6 or the 3.0 with 450hp. That’s could be good
I already have a 2014 ATS4 with the 3.6L, but if Cadillac does the V-Sport right I would upgrade. I would like to see a more aggressive body kit, with styling hints taken from the ATS-V with unique wheels that have a more aggressive offset. It needs seats with better bolstering, a flat bottom steering wheel and replace the generic instrument display with something much better (similar to what is in the new CT6). I think they could use a detuned version of the 400hp turbo 3.0L V6 that is supposed to be in the new CT6 at around 370-380hp. Lastly, it needs to be lowered slightly as the ATS has massive wheel gap.
I agree with your suggestions except for the engine. The 3.0TT is a perfect motor for the ATS V-SPORT but it has to have at least the 400HP that the CT6 will be getting.
Also Cadillac should offer a V-Sport like body kit for 2.0T & 3.6NA engines as well.
funny people .today is allready cadillac rear drive
The 2016 Models will have the 335hp LGX 3.6L V6 with the 8 speed auto, I suspect these moves alone to drop the times from 5.4 0-60MPH and 14.0 in the 1/4 mile to 5.1-5.2 and 13.7-13.8 if GM puts the right gearing in it. With stop and start baked in, I think they could gear it more aggressively and still see some improvement in the MPG.
That being said, I really don’t see how a V-sport model makes sense, unless AWD is an option. If you can swing $55-56k for an ATS Vsport (I am just speculating on price) then people are just going to pony up $63k for a ATS-V instead to get the real deal. However, the ace in the hole for the Vsport would be AWD for the northern markets. A little tuning to the new LGX bumps the HP to 350-355, (although might be tough to do w/o a turbo or SC) and I could see the market for this, I’d buy one.
A power upgrade would be great. But I think they need a trim package like Mercedes has with the AMG trim pack. For around $2800 your car will look like a serious machine. That would be such a great option for the ATS in general. I know a lot of people like their fender flares etc. and you don’t get that option on the ATS without going to the stratospheric price of the V . I think you’d find some more customers on the road if they could jazz it up a little bit without paying for 500 hp they’ll never use . Just like the competition does
I think a performance gauge cluster should be optional(Extra Cost) in both V-Sport and ATS-V models. One like in the new CTS-V. Another thought would be offering a different style steering wheel instead of just adding suede.
3.0 or 3.6 turbo around 400 hp. Car could look like non v ats with v sport badge on rear, giving it a sleeper image. It would still have the classy look with Chrome trim instead of the v’s sporty black trim. Anticipating its arrival for sure.
Cadillac should take advantage of it’s new 3.0L TT V6 producing 400hp to fit in between the available 3.6L with 321hp and the ATS-V’s 420hp 3.6 TT. Like all other V-Sport trim levels, it should come standard with magnetic ride control, 19 inch alloys (perhaps black?), black trim instead of the usual chrome, blacked out grille, tint, performance brembo breaks, suede steering wheel and shifter, 8-speed auto or 6-speed manual, carbon fiber body kit, and it should of course be available in AWD in order to make it competitive with the 335xi and Audi RS4 Quattro.
A V-Sport should essentially be a V-Series car with less horsepower and not as many track oriented gadgets…like no track maps or g-meters please. Furthermore, it should be set in the $50k segment, just between the $40K segmented ATS4 Performance Premium and the $60K segmented ATS-V.
Forget the ATS V-Sport, just give us AWD in the ATS-V already!
