Though the 2016 C7 Corvette Z06 wasn’t the shining star it should have been during Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car competition, due to a supercharger fault, Car and Driver had a different experience during its Lightning Lap event.
In fact, it placed first on the track, displacing its Cadillac cousin, the 2016 CTS-V.
C&DÂ tells a story about the 2016 C7 Z06 as a masterful, tactile track tool. The report cites a loss of thoughts, and an empty head before launching “Big Nasty” and taking off with the utmost force. Then, smiles as second gear takes the driver up to 93 mph.
But, to quote, it’s not a “peaceful, monk-on-a-mountain experience.” The brash beast still tests the driver, and commands the utmost respect. As it should.
It’s hard to think how the Corvette team can top such a car, but we’re sure they have a mid-engine ideas in the works.

And the video of the his lightning lap?
I still really want a Z-06, but am very leery of the heat( or whatever) problems it is having. The bad lap from Motor Trend ( Laguna Seca)was most telling!!!! Please explain…………………………Sam Caloiaro
The Lap issue at Laguna was not from the heat issue. They found a connector issue on the harness that cut the boost. Also they forgot to replace the brake pads after another magazine killed the brakes.
It was a major mistake on the Corvette team on the press car not a production issue.
From what I have heard the heat issue was a bleed in the intercooler system and it is being addressed.
