We’ll start out saying Gingerman Raceway is an excellent track for a vehicle like the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V. It’s short, has plenty of corners, a bit of a technical portion in the middle and two appropriate straight sections to power through, a great time to unleash the LF4 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6.
Thanks to Motor Authority, we can vicariously live out a hot lap of the track in the 2016 ATS-V. If you’re looking for more track impressions directly, though, check out our first drive of the 2016 ATS-V at Road America here.
Through the hot lap, the same confidence inspiring chassis is worked, and the power finds its way to the ground through the same V6 whir many have come to dislike. It sounds much better in person, if we had to add our two cents.
With news of the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V in for a power boost to fend off upcoming rivals, could the 2016 ATS-V be next? There’s already plenty of power on the table, but we won’t say no.

Although not as sexy as the CTS-V engine, I like the sound of the ATS-V exhaust note. I like the fact that it is not loud but refined with an excellent sound to it like a Cadillac should. Don’t understand why auto critics is knocking it.
It’s tough to gauge how well the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V is doing on the track without knowing how other cars on this track might have performed as Car and Driver magazine held their annual Lightning Lap at Virginia International Raceway with one car taking a lap after another and in their LL3 class the best was the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – 2:44.6 followed by the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V – 2:56.8, the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe – 2:59.2, the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S – 2:59.2 and the 2015 Lexus RC F – 3:05.8.
It’s no wonder why General Motors announced they’re upgrading their LT4 manufacturing facility to try meeting demands for the Corvette Z06; but you’ve got to wonder why Cadillac CTS-V and ATS-V sales are lagging unless it’s the same old story which is Cadillac does a terrible job in letting the ‘world’ know how good their cars are.
