Modern vehicles may be more powerful, smarter and efficient than ever before, but stepping into a classic iteration of a long vehicular bloodline can sometimes do so much more than give you goosebumps from acceleration.
Auto Express has rounded up a 1983 Vauxhall Astra GTE, a formidable hot hatch from its time, to square off against its modern, polished successor, the 2015 Vauxhall Astra VXR.
The Astra GTE screams 1980s, for better or worse, and arrived with 116 hp pumping out of its 1.8-liter fuel injected four-cylinder engine. Pure, hot hatchery fun.
The Astra VXR arrives with an interior much like the GTC it’s based on, but ups the power proposition to a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 280 hp. That’s quite a few more ponies.
It’s a competition between a modern marvel, and classic engineering. Which one’s a winner in your eyes? Talk to us should you feel so compelled in the comments below.
