The troubled General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen partnership may be all but formally dissolved, but there will be two new vehicles to be born of it.
Per the agreement, PSA and GM were to develop two new crossovers to replace the aging Opel-Vauxhall Zafira and Meriva, both currently wearing MPV-like designs. But, new, crossover-SUV looks are inbound.
Auto Express has snapped spy shots of the next-generation Meriva, and it looks like the vehicle is certainly sporting a crossover look. The Meriva should slot in well between the current Mokka and Antara crossover SUVs, while the Zafira, and a new large SUV, lurk in the shadows still.
The PSA/GM agreement will see costs split 50/50 for the new Meriva and, Auto Express is certain what we see here is indeed the Meriva, as it sports identical steel wheels and similar camouflage and body proportions from the Peugeot 3008 prototype spied a week ago.
If the original agreement has its way, the next-generation Meriva and Zafira will be on sale in 2016.
