Kasey Kahne’s Throwback Scheme For Darlington Unveiled

This weekend the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington will go green, marking the first time the historic race has been run on Labor Day Weekend since 2003. Almost every team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup field has adorned their cars with special throwback paint schemes to mark the occasion, including Hendrick Motorsports’ Kasey Kahne.

Kahne’s livery is a throwback to Jeff Bodine’s All-Star Racing Monte Carlo from Darlington 1984, the first time Hendrick Motorsports ever raced at the famed South Carolina venue. The car is promoting HendrickRideAlong.com, a contest set up by Hendrick Motorsports allowing fans to enter to win an all expenses paid trip to the race team’s headquarters in South Carolina and hangout with Kahne for the day.

“I think the car looks great,” Kahne said in a statement. “I am excited to drive it at Darlington, a track that we have come close to winning at in the past and been fast at since I’ve been in Cup. It is a big weekend, Labor Day weekend, the Southern 500 – that is a race that I really want to win, and to be in a great looking, old-school paint job.”

“I think the fans will really enjoy it,” he added. “I know from me being a race fan as well as a driver, I like the retro. I like the older look of cars once in a while. I’ll be doing it, Chase Elliott, Dale (Earnhardt), Jimmie (Johnson) – there’s a bunch of us doing it throughout that weekend, so I think it is really neat to bring that back on a big race weekend.”

Catch Kahne’s stylish retro livery as it takes to the track this Friday for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Practice ahead of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 on Sunday. Personally, we’re quite fond of Kyle Larson’s Cole Trickle Mello Yello Chevy.
