The industry has seen a major shift in purchasing regarding pre-owned vehicles. Since the 2009 financial crisis, the used car industry has boomed, with many automakers offering in-house certified vehicle programs.
There is some good news for buyers in Australia, as the RACQ 2015 Used Car Safety Ratings Guide has ranked Holden vehicles as some of the safest on local roads.
In the highly-competitive compact-car segment, the 2009-2012 Holden Cruze beat out rivals from Ford, Mazda and Volkswagen, once again ranking at the top of the list. The 2003-2006 Holden Caprice and 2006-2012 Holden Captiva also took top honors in their segments, which Holden says shows its commitment to safety across the range of product offered.
Rounding out the top five vehicles were the 2003-2005 Holden Vectra and 2007-2013 VE Holden Commodore.
Holden’s Vehicle Safety Manager, Stewart Sheffield, said Holden will continued to emphasize safety and look for innovation where it sees fit.
“Holden has always been at the forefront of the safety standings, from being the first Australian manufacturer to offer seat-belts and airbags, to being the first local manufacturer to introduce Electronic Stability Control across a vehicle range,” said Sheffield.
The RACQ rates over 210 used vehicles for in-depth analysis.
