Dodge Viper ACR Races Corvette ZR1 And Slides Into The Grass

Y’ever hear the one about the former Nürburgring lap record holder that spun off Harris Hill Road Raceway, causing the grass to catch fire?

Neither had we, until this bizarre chase video featuring a 2008 Dodge Viper ACR and a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 slid into our inbox.

As many will remember, the late-model, 600 hp Viper ACR reclaimed the fastest production car lap record at the ‘Ring when GT driver Dominik Farnbacher hurled it around the 12.9-mile course in a faintly believable 7:12.13 in September 2011.

The 638 hp LS9-powered ZR1 should have been left in its tire smoke in the video, as much as it hurts us to say. But no.

As usual, it all comes down to who’s behind the wheel. The ZR1 gingerly munches apexes like Cheetos while the Viper pilot seems hopelessly lost as he/she meanders from one side of the track to the other like an injured dog. Both are sad, but this is probably sadder.

Near the halfway point the Viper suddenly looses the handle and slides off into the embankment, showering the tailing ZR1 with a flurry of stones.

It’s not a short video so head on over to the 6:30 mark to see the Viper bite the grass. While we never see the flames– the YouTube user who posted the video claims as much – the Viper driver is seen back on track at the 7:08 mark.

Practice makes perfect, right?

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.
