Before we delve into this fun-to-watch video, let’s take a look at a few specs of each vehicle. A 2014 Ford Mustang GT has a weight of around 3,700 pounds and 420 hp stock, while a Chevrolet C5 Corvette Z06 weighs just over 3,100 pounds and has 385 stock. Torque is pretty much even with 385 lb-ft for the Z06 and 390 lb-ft for the Mustang. That’s, again, if the vehicles are stock.
That being said, it’s no surprise that the heavier Ford Mustang started tugging along the 600-pound-lighter Corvette – especially when the Corvette’s first two launches were high-revving clutch-dumps that gave it no chance of grabbing any traction.
In the final bout, we see the Corvette start to show a little bit of its power, though the weight of the Mustang eventually overcomes this. So, we would have to refute the videos final claim, “In the end, the Mustang proved its dominance over the Corvette in this all American matchup of muscle,” as it only proves that the Mustang weighs more/had more traction. Simple physics really, or just simple enough that even we could understand it.
