Community Question: What Are Your Initial Impressions Of The 2017 Cadillac XT5?

Although Cadillac stated in its marketing stunt video for the 2017 XT5, where it flew the crossover over Manhattan, the XT5 was “never seen before,” that’s a load of folly.
Months back, the 2017 Cadillac XT5 was spotted sitting completely uncovered in New York City, most likely for promotional photos. Still, two amateur photos can’t make for a final judgement. Cadillac officially dropped a few officially shots of the 2017 XT5 yesterday evening, so it’s time to ask you: what are your first impressions of the crossover?
To explain how important the 2017 XT5 will be for Cadillac, let us remind you the current SRX rings in as one of the brand’s best sellers alongside the Escalade. While the crossover and SUV segment sees fresh buyers every day, the SRX has gone stale.
We don’t have specifics on features, powertrains or anything of the like, but we can say the 2017 XT5 does look much, much better in official photos than in the original photos that surfaced of the crossover. And that’s important, because Cadillac will continue to amp up its emphasis on design with incoming product.
Speaking of incoming product, this will be the last totally-new Cadillac you’ll see in a few years, since Cadillac stated it will take a product hiatus to really begin developing its new crossovers, and engineer indirect replacements for the 2015 ATS and 2015 CTS.
So, how are you feeling about the Cadillac XT5? Vote below, and, as always, talk to us in the comments.

So far, I love it. I hope (and expect) to see magnetic ride control and the 3.0TT with the 8 speed transmission. I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but this black XT5 in the press shots has a different grill than the brown XT5 shown at the fashion event last night. I personally prefer the one on the brown car. It looks to me that it could be a Platinum trim level or maybe a performance grill (Vsport?). Regardless, I can’t wait to see all the specs and interior. It’s sad that this is the last all new Cadillac we will be seeing for a little while, they are on a role.
Personally, I think it is too soon to start a poll. But I do think it looks excellent, though.
The whole design is a little beefy. There isn’t anything wrong with it, but I assumed it would be sleeker. It has some “Escalade” in it, which isn’t a bad thing. I want to see this and the 3-row version before I make any judgement calls.
Overall, I give it a thumbs up*
*pending further inspection.
Looks decent. Not mind blowing, but simple and elegant. Can’t wait to see the interior, tech, and powertrain options.
From what I have seen this should do well. It is a progression of a already popular and profitable model so there really is no big risk here.
I think it will look better in person. Most new Cadillac models just do not photograph well. The dimensions are hard to capture in a 2D photo.
I will have to see it in person but I expect not to be disappointed.
Is this the home run car? No but it will be another step to credibility in a improving reputation and more money to continue to build on it.
It looks confident instead of showy. The way the first Volt looks insecure but the new one is relaxed.
It certainly looks better than that new RX that’s for sure
Pictures don’t tell the potential customer anything more than this is just another CUV or is it SUV from another manufacturer . Caddie’s brand name is no longer a hot entity and there are lots of prestige similar products that have been on the market for YEARS . The SRX is it ( Escalade not counted , different segment) and this is all Caddie had as competition in this mid size hot segment . The SRX appeared to have had a lot of quality issues early on so my conclusion is simply , the XT5 is two years late getting on the market and the competition is two years stronger . The European and Japanese products will continue to rain on Cadillac’s parade , but , not as hard….should sell better than the SRX !
Its an evolution of the current SUV . It now blends into the Cadillac design theme . But its not revolutionary in that it still somewhat retains the overall appearance of the SRX . Its like they wanted to update the vehicle but not to much to scare away the SRX owners that want to buy the next new model . And thats a good thing . Sales of the SRX are still making money for GM , so make the XT5 look like the proper evolution . But thats just for the exterior , waiting for the full reveal of the interior to see how far they went with the design theme and the quality of the surfaces and switch gear . Plus will we get the new CUE system like in the CT6 ( lets hope so ) .I also think the front end looks more aggressive .
I like the looks of the new XT5. I hope they don’t make the same pricing mistake they made with the 2014 CTS. If priced appropriately the new XT5 will continue to sell well. If they push the pricing too far, like they did with the CTS, it will collect dust on dealer lots, just like the CTS.
Looks good for what it is….but I would never buy a CUV.
I think the XT5 looks great. I would prefer it to be the size of the Acadia/Enclave then one could be in my garage.
Will most likely be purchasing this when it comes out! Exciting to see the specs, and hope its worth the trade in of our ’14 SRX
I love the looks of the car. My disappointment is the lack of a plug in model like the Volt. Early rumors said there would be one, but now there isn’t even a mention of it anytime soon. I have a reservation for a Tesla Model X and I will proceed to take delivery (6 months from now) and forget about the XT5.
I would like to buy GM … will Buick get a plug in version off the XT5 platform?
