Chevrolet Onix Was Brazil’s Best-Selling Car In August

The Chevrolet Onix was Brazil’s best-selling vehicle in August 2015, selling 10,999 units during the month. This is the first time that the small hatchback has occupied the best-selling position since its launch three years ago.

In addition, the Onix has sold over 70,000 units during the first eight months of 2015, making it the best-selling model in the retail space (which excludes sales to fleets and businesses).

Those not intricately familiar with the Onix will appreciate knowing that it’s a subcompact five-door hatchback based on GM’s global Gamma II platform shared with the Sonic/Aveo five-door hatchback. Launched in 2012, the vehicle was developed by GM Brazil for developing markets and is sold in various markets in Central and South America as a low-cost alternative to the Sonic. The four-door sedan variant of the Onix is sold as the Prisma.

  1. This is exactly what the Sonic should have been , why does it take years to get this product into today’s design world . The foresaken bar across the grill is so dated , yuck !!

    1. Yes, Drum_Junkie is right — the Sonic is a much better product than this. This is a downscaled, downgraded, unrefined vehicle for developing markets.

    2. I live in Brasil and this car, although it is the best in the segment, has an poor powertrain: 33MPG. The ”less expensive” cars here has horrible materials, weak steel and a poor interior. The Sonic, which is not more sold here because was overpriced, was MUCH better.

      1. GM should bring the Sonic back to Brazil, though for slightly less than where it was priced before.

  2. The US spec Sonic is much better than this. This is a poor, stripped down Sonic. 4-lug wheels, cheap door handles, tiny brakes, etc. Styling is subjective, but I like the US styling and ‘exposed’ headlights much better than what is shown in the pictures above.

  3. This car is so small it literally flew off shelves!
