And Now, The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Order Guide

Just yesterday, Chevrolet announced official pricing for the all-new, 2016 Malibu sedan. And now, we’ve gotten our hands on the order guide for the new midsizer.
The order guide shows the new, E2XX-based sedan will be available in six trim levels, including:
- L
- LS (1FL for fleets and 1LS for retail customers)
- LT (1LT and 2LT)
- Premier (which replaces LTZ while carrying a production reference of 2LZ)
In addition, nine exterior colors will be available, including:
- Autumn Bronze Metallic (extra-cost color)
- Blue Velvet Metallic
- Iridescent Pearl Tricoat (extra-cost color)
- Butte Red Metallic
- Silver Ice Metallic
- Summit White
- Mosaic Black Metallic
- Crystal Red Tintcoat (extra-cost color)
- Champagne Silver Metallic
Complementing the nine exterior hues are three interior color combinations:
- Dark Atmosphere/Medium Ash Gray
- Jet Black
- Dark Atmosphere/Loft Brown
For the time being, the order guide has two engine choices — the all-new 1.5L Turbo LFV and the 2.0L Turbo LTG inline-four Ecotecs, which leads us to believe that the Malibu Hybrid is a late-model addition.
Note that the engine guide has the torque rating for the 1.5T is mis-printed as 250 pound-feet. The actual torque rating for the engine is actually 184 pound-feet.
There’s a whole bunch of juicy stuff in the order guide, so go ahead and download it for your leisurely perusal right here (PDF Format).

Maybe I’m wrong, but I do not see HID headlamps as an option. I’m surprised by this as much of the class offers them and they were available on the previous Malibu. This is something that should be standard on Premier models, yet it isn’t even an option. For such an advancement in every area, this is the first step back I see on this new model.
I think you’re right. Like the lack of auto-dimming passenger-side mirror on the Cadillacs, the lack of HIDs – even optional – is concerning.
I don’t see it listed on the options either, only auto dimming high beams.
Likewise, only two of the 6 trims are available with a sunroof. Why is it available on the 1LT, and not the 2LT? That means, if I want a sunroof AND turbo, I’m forced into the Premier.
Is there rear air vents on this? Not like this car needs one but a lot of competition got one though
There is, but only on LT and Premier. It’s under “Vent” in the Interior section (RPO code C59).
I don’t know what to think of Chevy anymore, first they discontinue SS from some of the models, and now they are replacing LTZ with premier.
Because SS has no place on cars that are front wheel drive driven by SoCal skanks. What says class to you 3 letters or a synonymous word? “Premier” is better. Just as “High Country” is better on the Silverado.
haha C’mon Hoffa the Cobalt SS was no joke man and that was FWD.
The Camaro SS is king, ofcourse.- but the Cobalt was solid
Gino the problem is most people have never driven an Cobalt SS and have no idea they were faster then many of the past SS cars.
Though I wish it was a RWD as traction is a problem.
But to be fair in this class it still comes back to price and how many you would sell.
To do a proper SS it would be at least $40,000 or more and just how many people would buy the car at that price? Even the GS at $42k with AWD is a low volume car. May as well buy a Camaro SS for that price.
The others in class to do not offer performance models because at this price point it is difficult.
A Cruze SS in a new hatch may be a better option to take on the new Honda and Ford offerings with the performance edge.
Hoffa you must be young, generation Z. Like i was saying in my last post, im old school so all this name changing on cars and turbo charged 4 bangers dont sit well with me, even though technology, and the needs of the people are changing. I’m just sayin why the name premier as the top of the line name? If i wasnt reading articles and blogs and i seen a chevy malibu premier roll pass, i would question the trim level, that just doesn’t pop as a top of the line name, even though you say skanks drive FWD SS models, I own a few old school RWD and newer SS models, when you see the badge SS on any model you know it’s top of the line, doesn’t matter if it belongs on the car or not unless you tryna go over and beyond names and through a Z28 model name on a car, then that matters to me. aw well it is what it is.
Premier is kinda cheesy
Does Dark Atmosphere really resonate as a “gotta have” color?
A few things to keep in mind here. #1 they normally have changed that come after first start up of production. #2 these forms are often filled with errors that are corrected or better stated. Often if a item is listed for a 1LT it is also offered on the 2LT. Things like the Sun Roof in the 2LT should be a given and I am sure it is available.
As for things like no HID headlamps etc. Here is the deal. They may be added for the higher packages at some point. Also in this segment the key is price. You have a limit on what you can do price wise and the MFG have to pick and choose what to put into the cars to make that cost and retain a profit. While come companies may offer these expensive lights they also skimp and cheap out in areas that may not always be as high profile but also make a difference in the overall quality of the car.
Just for example while many companies use rubber timing belts GM has used more expensive chains to save on maintenance cost. Better Boron Steel and Aluminum to cut weight over the others. Better transmissions etc. The little things add up to an overall better car. While it may be sexy to add the high buck lights you have to look at what else they have done to make the car better buy taking that money and putting it in other areas of the car.
Some companies can dress a pig up pretty well but in the long term people find they have leaking shocks at 60K miles or an exhaust that only last 100K not the life of the car, or sheet metal that dents if the kids fall on it.
Also in this class repair cost can be a factor. Often people who have a value brand car are shocked when they have to replace or repair these HID lights. I have heard them scream in pain on this personally.
Much of this is decided in clinics where they offer people do you want this or that and they make up the car with the most popular choices of the average buyer.
Note the one I liked is when asking customer what was important to them in the 5th gen Camaro. One question was the smell of leather seats. Yes it cost more to add scent to the seats. They asked if it was important enough to skip these other features. Well if you have been in a 5th gen did you smell leather? No but you got more and other options added.
I didn’t see some of the safety features I thought would be available. Wasn’t there supposed to be 1. lane departure warning, 2. front collision warning, and 3. teen driving monitoring?
Driver Confidence Package (WPR) includes the first two items you mention, and is available on 1LT and higher.
Driver Confidence Package II (WPS) includes (KSG) adaptive cruise control, (UGN) front automatic braking, (UFQ) Semi-Automatic Parking Assist and (J71) electronic parking brake.
Not sure about Teen Driving. Could be a mid-model-year roll-out.
A little disappointed in a few areas.
13 gal tank for a mid size?? I hope that’s a misprint!
Dual zone A/C only on the Premier??
Navigation requires the leather package??
Still only heated seats with the leather package?? The new Cruze is saying heated cloth seats will be available!!
Premier only gets the “big” engine?? I would think for the money you pay for the high end model, you would get a choice of motors like the LT.
Looks like I will wait and see how the Cruze will be optioned out!! 🙂
I miss the tenth Color Gray Nightfall. I am glad that there are many paint schemes in the car. Red Butte is gorgeous!
