It’s that time of year again. Motor Trend has rounded up the greatest performance, and pedestrian, machines the model year has given us, and is busy pushing their limits at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. With a little help from Randy Pobst, of course.
And, some of General Motors’ most precious sheetmetal has made it into the field, including the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V. Here, we see Pobst use his skills to tame the LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in the latest sport sedan from the brand to lay down an impressive time at the track.
Overall, Pobst walked away impressed with the balanced chassis (thanks, Alpha!) and immense torque from the engine. Though, he was not a fan of the brakes, which he noted required a heavy foot to produce the stopping power needed to slow the hurling mass of American performance to a halt.
Will the 2016 CTS-V have what it takes overall to take the Best Driver’s Car crown? We’ll know soon enough.
- Sweepstakes Of The Month: Win a 2023 Corvette Z06 Convertible. Details here.
Mercedes AMG-GTS 1st; Porsche Cayman GT4 2nd; Mazda MX-5 3rd; Mercedes-AMG C63S 4th; Bentley Continental GT3 5th; CTS-V 6th; ATS-V 7th; Lexus RCF 8th ; Volkswagen Golf R 9th; Corvette ZO6 DNF. Another black eye for the ZO6!
Is it possible that this particular car had a brake issue? Doesn’t make sense that the rest of the car is dialed in minus the brakes.
(puts away his cheque book until further notice… Lol)
Car and Driver’s October 2015 issue had an article where they test drove a series of cars including the C7 Corvette Z06 and this third generation Cadillac CTS-V at Virginia International Speedway ; the results had the C7 Corvette Z06 finish a lap at 2:44.6 which placed it in 2nd place 1.5 seconds behind Porsche’s 918 while the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V finished 28th place with a time of 2:56.8 although this is still faster than ‘it’s good to be bad’ 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe which finished at 3:01.0 for 51st place. The 2016 Mercedes AMG-GT S finished in 2:51.0 for 15th place, the 2014 Porsche Cayman 3:02.6 for 58th place, the 2015 Lexus RCF 3:05.8 for 81st place.
