Ezra Dyer of Car and Driver recently decided to find out just how well the new C7 Corvette Z06 could hold its own out on an autocross course.
The Z06 wasn’t the only outsider amongst the German machines at the Porsche Club of America autocross event, a 2016 Mazda Miata driven by Dan Neil from the Wall Street Journal was also in on the fun. Interestingly enough, Dyer and Neil both ran 41.7-second laps. It seems that 650 hp is just enough power to keep up with a more nimble, lightweight sports car where a coned course is the natural habitat. Dyer, putting the pedal to the medal, had the Z06 looking like a raging bull in a china shop – though he somehow didn’t break anything (we think). We should probably mention that the course was “cracked with cracks,” and had an unavoidable speed-bump, which led to a near-wheelie from the silver Corvette.
So maybe it isn’t exactly the most ideal car for autocross, but that doesn’t mean we’d turn down the opportunity to try it out ourselves.
