It’s Motor Trend Best Driver’s Car season and, with no doubt, the 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 arrived on the scene to put its credentials to the test at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Randy Pobst, race car driver extraordinaire, hopped in for a hot lap with the 2015 Corvette Z06, but it quickly became evident there were some issues holding the car back.
While the car was performing exquisitely in the cornering and grip departments, Pobst reports in the video the Corvette Z06 was misfiring, and simply wasn’t making any power when asked, comparing the straightaway experience to that of a 1962 Ford Falcon.
A shame, because it’s clear the kind of potential the C7 Z06 has, and it has been well documented before. Unfortunately for General Motors, the 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 may not be the shining star it was poised to be at this year’s competition. But, maybe the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will be, instead.
You can’t win them all, but the C7 Corvette Z06 did take home Car and Driver’s Lightning Lap crown, if it’s any consolation to the Corvette team.

Granted every vehicle will have their teething and issues, but why is it that only Motor Trend gets this “faulty” Vettes?
Every time they go to test a Z06, they have some sort of issue. I never hear of issues with Car and Driver, Automobile, Jalopnik or whomever does a major test.
Curious for sure but shame on Chevrolet for not supplying a vehicle for testing that they had properly vetted to make sure there were no issues.
With a competition as well respected as this in one of the top two auto magazines they shouldn’t get a faulty one.
Let’s face it folks: the Z06 is a fantastic performer bogged down from serious issues! I know virtually every car has some initial faults to one degree or another, but this is getting ridiculous! The C7 Vette’s “teething” issues are becoming quite extensive and are beginning to tarnish an otherwise stellar name! And what’s with the cooling issues of GM’s latest performance offerings? I’m starting to hear more reports of the ATS-V and CTS-V experiencing brake heating and what not…. I just finished watching the Smoking Tires review of the ATS-V and Matt Farah mentioned an ATS-V Coupe experienced overheating and had to go into limp mode! C’mon GM! Let’s get it together! You’re making the best cars you’ve ever produced! What gives?!…
It’s not always the car as it sometimes the driver as some drivers don’t trust the C7 Corvette Z06 as much as they should and they’re not willing to really push the car or some drivers go nuts and push the C7 Z06 beyond what it might be capable of; Car and Driver tested the C7 Corvette Z06 and ranked it second only to the 2015 Porsche 918 at Virginia Motor Speedway which means you can really squeeze every bit of performance out of the C7 Corvette Z06 if you know what you’re doing.
Pobst doesn’t know what he’s doing? Is that what you’re saying?
Surely; GM does not display the time of his Corvette at the Nurburgring because the car also had to give problems.
If I am Tadge; I begin to feel concern for the Z06
Unless you plan to go track racing, just buy the Z51 if you want a Vette. It has all the power needed for the street and then some.
Obviously something is wrong with the engine. Not sure why GM would provide a car with some sort of engine issue. Just look at the straight shots where he has the foot down and is having trouble accelerating over 100 mph.
Looks like a electronic problem, no mechanic, the engine go good on the CTS-V setup but in the Z06 fails.
GM may check the sensors and electronic system………..
Those interested in getting a C7 of any level (base, Z51 or Z06) and using it extensively as a track car should do some serious research and proceed with caution. Overheating engines, transmissions, power steering and 300F oil temps have been widely reported with these cars. The most troubling thing is there seems to be no clear solutions for those that have the issues? There are comments like ” for those using the C7 Z06 quite a bit at the track, we recommend the M7 instead of the A8″? Many are having no issues at all, but the fact that some are and the same problems seem to persist in now the 3rd year of these cars is very disappointing.
This is beyond Pitiful! This C7 Z06 was even considerably slower then the ’14 Z51 Lapped at Laguna Secca! GM should be ashamed of themselves! This Gen Z06 clearly was a rushed project that needed more or simply less horsepower! IDK why outdoing the ZR1 was the goal power wise when performance wise, the base Z51 isn’t for off the C6 Z51. Had they given this Z06 575-595 naturally aspirated HP, a lighter body, & fixed roof further stiffening the car, this model would’ve been a complete hit/success! They aimed higher than their engineers could reach!!!! Too ambitious, Too soon!!!!
