Many of us in the U.S. think of a perfect candidate for an LS-swap when we think of the Vauxhall Chevette. And why wouldn’t we, it’s a tried and true example of the “little car, big engine” formula. But to Vauxhall, it’s much more than that, it’s the model that was at one point the best-selling hatchback in the UK, and granted them quite a bit of success.
The celebration will take place at the Pistons and Props Motoring Festival. This is the third annual Sywell Classic and it will be located at Northamptonshire’s Sywell Aerodome from September 26Â and 27, 2015. It’s the first time a major manufacturer has supported Sywell Classic, so this a milestone for the newer event, as the cars being celebrated were for Vauxhall.
There will be 20 spots in the Vauxhall Heritage Center open for Chevette owners looking to get involved. The Chevette HS2300Â will be on display as well as the Cavalier Mk.1, which is also celebrating its 40th anniversary. There’s even going to be a Biggles Bi-Plane air craft on show for the attendees, along with the all-new Vauxhall Astra and Viva.

And… This is on the Holden page because? Oh I know…. Vauxhall is Australian… Or is Holden English?? I’m confused!! just like the Americans it would seem!!
Confused me a little too mate, was thinking to myself “I dont remember Holden bringing one of these over to work on in the 70’s, would have made one god ugly Torana”
Same platform as a Gemini?
Pretty sure Gemini was a rebadged Isuzu. Someone out there will know for sure.
The original Holden Gemini was a rebadged Isuzu Gemini but built in Australia with some suspension components beefed up. The Isuzu Gemini was part of the General Motors T Car programme (with a front end designed by Vauxhall at Luton incidentally). The Vauxhall Chevette was the hatchback T Car launched in Mach 1975 and some months later launched by Opel as the Kadett City, the hatch was never sold as an Isuzu or Holden. The original US Chevrolet Chevette 3 door looked very similar to the Vauxhall & Opel versions but shared virtually no interchangeable components. The nearest the Vauxhall Chevette got to Australia was New Zealand where it was sold through Holden / Vauxhall / Bedford dealers. Hope that helps.
