The 2016 Chevrolet Impala Sees A $35 Increase

With all the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro pricing hoopla announced today, we’d figure it would be a good time to scope out other 16MY pricing for its Chevy siblings. Take the Impala, for instance.

The 2016 Chevrolet Impala, in our opinion, is one of the best looking vehicles in its class. Not only that, it’s one of the most affordable options too. This aspect should still be a big part of the Impala for the 2016 model year, though it does see a price increase… of a mere $35.

From our perspective, this price increase is actually a positive, considering the newer technological features that have been incorporated into the new Impala, such as the active phone cooling, wireless phone charging, and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The top-of-the-line LTZ model sees a $100 increase, which is pretty minute as well. All in all, you can purchase a fully-loaded Midnight Edition Impala for under $40K, we’ll cheers to that.

  3. Impala is less than two inches longer than the new Malibu meaning that Chevrolet is blurring the lines between midsized and large sedans yet not reflecting the overlap with pricing.
Impala should have simply replaced Malibu in North America with the Commodore /G8 /SS taking over as large flagship at the price point listed above.
Face it, the “First World” (US/AU via Holden) & China require a different Chevrolet than the developing world so leveraging scale and providing these regions a common line up (as opposed to a super-sized Insignia-based (wannabe LaCrosse) Commodore replacement makes financial sence.
The large car segment is shrinking due to growth in midsized, and only creative (Maxima, Charger Hell Cat) offerings will accomplish solid margins and avoid Avis .

  4. Agree with Marcus , as CUVs/SUVs have become today’s sedans , having two mid size Chevy cars isn’t practical or needed . Malibu since 2012 has been a hit and miss affair . I have repeatedly on GM Inside News Forum stated that the Malibu should be redefined as a middie CUV to take on the Ford Edge . This would be a much better fit , the only problem being that the Impala needs to shed about six inches in length and open up the greenhouse as front , rear and side visibility is compromised . The trunk is oversized and not a size needed in today’s driving world , as pass throughs from fold down rear seats make up the difference.

  5. I won’t buy the Impala until they bring back the SS. Put in the 3.6 twin turbo for some SS power!

  6. I think the new Impala is a great looking car and an excellent value. With the small increases announced for 2016, it is an even better value. If it had rear wheel drive with an all-wheel drive option, it would be a great car and if it was also available in SS trim with the 3.6 twin turbo suggested by Dann GG, it would be even better.

  7. This is the best the Impala has looked for a while, but I think it would be better going up against the Charger with rear and AWD and 4, 6 and 8 cylinder options.

  8. Well before we invest a lot of ideas into this car I would expect it to be replaced in a year or so,

Lets look at what we have. The Malibu grew to give the Cruze some room and now the Malibu is close to the Impala.

Ok now look at the Impala and SS models. The Impala is still on the old platform the Lacrosse and XTS are going to abandon in the coming next coupe years. Then we have the SS that has little time left.

Where does that bring us. Well look for a new Impala to come to market on the new platform similar to the new Buick, Opel and Holden. I would expect this one to have a AWD options and possibly a Turbo options for an AWD SS. The car will grow in size leaving the Malibu behind.

While the CUV is taking over the sedan in the Cruze, Malibu and Impala segments are still making money and selling in great numbers so I would still expect them to make a good effort here. While some people have migrated from the Sedan to the CUV many more are coming from the Larger SUV and for sure the Mini Van.

Ford has already killed the V8 in their sedans and Chrysler is said to be in the last 4 years of theirs if the reports are true. These cars will remain a 4 accept the Impala that will see a V6. Also expect the price to grow to where the Taurus is.

Right now the Malibu and Impala are just going to have to share some space till the new Impala arrives. GM already is replacing two Chevy cars this year and doing more is difficult money and man power wise.

    1. I expect this Impala to get a minimum six year cycle. Replacing a regional offering in a declining segment this soon don’t make dollars and cents.
The W body Impala has had a long and successful cycle and this Epsilon 2 model, with all the Consumer Reports praise, will probably carry on as an orphan for years.
New LaCrosse will get a minimum three year head start, possibly longer. Barra has till 2025 to reach that 4 platform go.

  9. The impala will be gone some where between 2017-2019 and be replaced with a new larger model based on the Lacrosse.

The segment has already and will continue to go a little higher price and that coupled with Police sales will keep it viable into the future even at lower volumes.

The SS will be rolled into this too and I would not be shocked if AWD and a Turbo 6 is offered now that Cadillac will release it as they will do their own engine.

The present car will not go as long as the W body and will not out live the XTS that already has been stated will be in fleet sales till 2019.

  10. This Impala is a really nice drive. I have rented it a number of times but refuse to buy it until GM fixes all the production quality problems. Producing a car and then releasing one TSBS after the other isnt acceptable. Build it right the first time so that I will buy a GM again. GM is still trying to pass off crap as quality and once a car has been arround for a few years and has little or no problems they discontinue it in favor for a redesign that has all the previous problems as if they didnt get a chance to learn to fix these problems at our expense no less. Obama should have let GM go bankrupt as an example to all other automakers. Produce crap and cheat your loyal customers you die it should be as simple as that.
