Vehicle modifier and customer builder Roadster Shop recently posted the following image of a Chevrolet Colorado with this caption:
Special Delivery…. #colorado #chevycolorado #sema2015 #gmperformance.
The teaser definitely has our attention, but the real question is, what will Roadster Shop’s Colorado bring to the table? If you ask us, the uncertainty in answering the question is what makes it so intriguing, as we’ve very interested to see what the shop does with the Colorado’s 2.5L inline 4 LCV or the more potent 3.6 liter V6 LFX. We’ll assume that the 2.8-liter I4 Duramax won’t make it to this show truck given that it has yet to launch in the market. We also wouldn’t rule out a thorough overhaul of the Colorado, given that SEMA is all about building the most crazy grandiose car or truck you can, in hopes of commanding the most attention.
With that said, the two things we’d like to personally see from the new Colorado is a capable off-road variant and a street performance variant with the twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 LF3 engine . Even so, the possibilities as to what tuners and vehicle builders can do with the Colorado are nearly endless, so we’d love to see your predictions as to what the Roadster Shop Colorado will be in the comments section below.

Hey, how about a sport suspension set up, something like the ZQ8 sport suspension found on the last Colorado and S-10???
How about a turbo charged 3.6L V6 to go along with it??
Like the idea of turbocharging the 3.6 V-6–one of the few complaints I have on my Colorado–acceleration is slow. Of course this is from someone who has owned 3 Corvettes(including a ZO6) and a CTS-V.
Being frank I have not been excited with the 3.6 in any of the applications I’ve had and the Colorado will be the 5th vehicle I’ve owned with it.
I have been watching to see if there is any hint of a ZQ8 but I have not seen any thing related to one yet. Being a past owner I had hoped one would be offered.
As for the Turbo. Well you might at some point see an Eco Turbo but I would be rather surprised if a 3.6 Turbo would ever be offered. The price alone would not be good as it would take this truck close to $50K
My ZQ8 was a V6 but I have noted most sold were the old 4 cylinder.
The problem is I think that if you add a Turbo V6 the price will drive people back to a Full size with the V8 anyways,
The 3.6 is over 300 HP now and a far cry from my 195 HP 4.3 so it could be a lot worse.
Anyways expect to see a lot of Colorado’s at the SEMA show this year in various custom configurations.
The V6 would be a bit more spritely with a proper rear end and better gear box ratios in it. In the quest for fuel economy, GM has used the same transmission and R&P that the 2.8L Diesel has… I ran the numbers and the rev limited top speed was something around 250mph.
How about an auto trans for the Colorado (and Canyon) that doesn’t spend so much time searching for the appropriate gear when you’re trying to accelerate?
Quit messing around! I have a 2012 Ext Cab Z71 Colorado with the 5.3L V8 and it “HAULS A$$”
32″ AT Tires and a 4″ Skyjacker lift, ~4300lbs, with that 300HP/320ft*lb 5.3L V8, make it run like a scared cat off road!
For this new Colorado they should have an extreme option for the Z71 and the 2wd. A 6.2L, 420hp/460ft*lb motor would make this thing a screamer. Leave the turbos at home, not needed. The active fuel management with such a light vehicle would keep the gas mileage on the highway near 20mph, and probably not too bad around town. The 6.2L cuts down to a 3.1L 4cylinder, which is a BIG 4 cylinders, probably enough to move the truck around fine around town when not seriously on the gas!
Hey Guys We build a real world supercharger kit for the 3.6 and we have them in three different power levels 315 Rear wheel 350 rear wheel and 550 rear wheel pull up my web site and you can see our offerings..Im debuting the kit at SEMA in the Magnuson booth this week. if you guys have any questions please send me your emails and we will send out our paper work .
