Formula Student is one of the cooler university education programs we’ve come across. The annual competition pits student teams from around the world against each other as they attempt to design, build, test and race a small-scale formula style car while also keeping business interests and costs factors in mind.
For this year’s Formula Student contest, Opel gave the 110 teams competing another avenue to think about: style. For the first time ever, the style-centric Russelsheim-based automaker handed out its ‘Opel Style Award’ to the team it believed offered “the smartest holistic design and package solution,” on their racecar.
The recipients of the first-ever Opel Style Award were ‘Starkstrom’ from Augsburg University in Germany. Opel said the team’s Formula Student racer, dubbed ‘Cedur’, “managed to implement a formal design concept consistently within extremely complex technical regulations.” The team’s attractive graphic decals also caught the eye of Opel judges.
Apart from bragging rights and a trophy, team ‘Starkstrom’ will also receive an Opel Adam S team vehicle for winning the Opel Style award. The hot hatch will be at the team’s disposal throughout the season in 2016.
