Doron Levin, formally of The Detroit Free Press, will be launching his latest project in form of a new SiriusXM radio show titled, In The Driver’s Seat. And how fitting for the show to launch with an interview with the woman in charge of one of the world’s largest automakers: General Motors CEO, Mary Barra.
Levin will open the show with a few major headlines in the automotive industry, but turn over the rest of the program to a one-on-one interview with Barra. Topics Barra covers range from her 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 convertible purchase, which she has titled “The Beast,” turmoil in the Chinese market and her goal of transforming GM into a place where young minds, and fresh talent, want to work.
On the topic of China particularly, Barra remains heavily optimistic despite recent economic woes.
“Is it going to be a little more volatile? Probably. Is there still opportunity? Absolutely. Are we there for the long term? Most certainly,” she said.
Levin’s show will air Saturdays at noon on SiriusXM channel 121, with an encore broadcast at 9 a.m. every Sunday.

“a place where young minds, and fresh talent, want to work”
I appreciate the sentiment and wish Ms. Barra the best of luck here. I will note, though, that if she wishes to reach such people she needs to be having this discussion on the Huffington Post on not Sirius Radio.
Who could pass up a one-on-one with a former Freep writer, who will toss a series of friendly, pre-screened softball questions to Ms. Barra?
Pretty sure they won’t touch on things like, “how do you feel about your upcoming deposition,” “what are you expecting the fine from the government for ignition-gate to be,” or “Buick could really benefit from the Envision – how are you going to approach that with the UAW”?
Sorry, I can’t make the pep rally at noon on Saturday. Let me know how it turns out!
She wants leaders not followers.
Sorry for ruffling your confederate feathers. I didn’t mean to suggest anything political.
I meant to say YOUNG people aren’t subscribing to Sirius Radio. They live in the land of Pandora, Spotify, and any other free way to get music they want. Some may even pay for Apple Music. Or when Spotify nudges into charge mode. They offer better services than Sirius.
Huff readers, by the by, run tech savvy. You want that if you’re looking for young minds and fresh talent.
John first off it is Rebel not Confederate. That is what you missed in the other post. They are two different things.
Second to reach the people GM needs and wants they are not going to recruit them from blog sites, Radio stations or YouTube.
The truth is they still do it the old way just as the NFL does right from schools. Sure an occasional walk on happens but most top talent is obtained in the schools long before they are even thinking of entering the work place.
Most all top companies use head hunters to seek top talent that best fits the needs.
Now if you want to reach the mouth breathing young people that troll the Huff, and other blogs conservative or progressive to sell cars or promote the save the kitten drives by GM that is fine.
The sad fact is most young people on the web are playing video games and or are more into what dress Bruce Jenner is wearing today. Those who are career minded really don’t have a lot of time for so much of the fluff on the web.
It is just so hard to hire good smart talent anymore. That has been the cry from the entire industry. I know from my place even well educated people find it tough to show up everyday let alone on time. We lost one guy married with a child because he could not get to work on time. He would stay up or at home playing the latest video game. He was a good worker and very smart when he found the time to show up. I am sad to say he was not the only one like that.
Other issues are passing background checks because of things they put on YouTube they did on a drunken weekend. Smart yes but disciplined and mature no.
The truth is Mary was just sending out to the public what GM is working on and this message will get out several different ways over the next couple weeks. Sirius was just one way they will do it. Mary has been sending this message other ways already as this is not the first time she has done this.
Note she has spoke at many collages and educational areas going directly to the schools.
Ah… back to the ‘everyone is an idiot who isn’t like you’ rants.
What a ‘rebel’.
No people are not as wise or smart as they used to be. lose their smart phone and they are lost. Lose their power grid and they are dead from starvation in Months.
See you want to make this about you or me when it is about people in general.
You may want to mock me but you are not going to recruit top talent by appearing the Huff , CNN, Fox or any other blog or news program.
Funny but one of the most unwise even understands this. To quote David Lee Roth he said the larger the crowd the lower the general IQ. While he has not bee the most wise he was right here.
It is about wisdom and a smart company and a smart individual is not going make a career our of reading a story on the Huff or YouTube. These things are done on a ground level at the schools on a personal basis not much unlike a football recut. They are scouted and judged for skills and talent and then offered.
You may think everything happens on the web but the real deals are still made face to face.
Today we have many smart people and companies need to seek out the most talent and wisdom. That is not the same as smart.
My point is you are not going to read a Story at the Huff or any other blog and say gee I am going to become a GM engineer.
I am sure you are not an idiot but I do believe you are unwise to how thing work as so many are today. You can’t Blog, Wikipedia, Google or Bing everything.
It is kind of like a real auto enthusiast espousing a autonomous car but yet love Corvettes. Sorry the one will lead to the death of the other yet some can not reason this.
Foolish people are nothing new as we have had them for years. Just today many are connected and putting their drunken photos on Facebook like it is a good thing.
Case in point I just had locally a Kent State Professor get caught in a car with a 15 year old boy having sex. Smart guy yes unwise yes. Result of a meeting on line.
The Former Mayor of Akron caught at an Akron University event in a parking lot peeing on a tree. Smart guy but so very unwise.
Thinking you are going to recruit from the Huff. A thought of a smart guy but so very unwise as that is not how it works millennial or not.
Then she should be doing NPR.
Satellite Radio isn’t drawing Millennials.
Not to mention YouTube.
You mean the Watch this Channel? That is a good place to recruit smart people.
How about Facebook where we can see the naked drunk tattoo pictures from Padre Island. That is a great way to know about who you hire. To be honest that is where many look to find who to avoid.
I agree Millennia’s are tech savvy but being smart is not the same as being wise. When hiring you want both not just one.
