Corvette Racing may be in a close fight for the GTLM drivers’ championship with BMW Team RLL, but the team is confident in its abilities to win as the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship heads to Road America, a track the Corvette camp has visited many times before.
All three of Corvette Racings cars, the C5-R, C6.R and C7.R, have raced at Road America. Corvette Racing’s debut race at the 4.0-48-mile 14 turn track was during the 2002 American Le Mans Series season and since then, the team has racked up six victories there. Of note, five of those victories happened consecutively from 2004-2008.
The teams’ current driver roster has also experienced a great deal of success at Road America. Driver of the No. 4 C7.R, Oliver Gavin, has four pole positions and five fastest race laps in 13 appearances at the track, while Tommy Milner has contributed to three Corvette Racing victories there. Jan Magnussen has also won twice at Road America, once with Corvette Racing in 2008.
It’s a good thing Corvette Racing is confident in its abilities to win at Road America, as the team currently needs points more than ever. Just 2 points separate leaders Magnussen and teammate Antonio Garcia from BMW drivers Bill Auberlen and Dirk Werner in the GTLM drivers’ championship, and Chevy is third in the manufacturer standings behind Porsche and BMW.
Watch on as Corvette Racing battle it out for a much needed win on one of America’s favorite race tracks this Sunday, August 9th at 3:05 p.m ET. FOX Sports 1 live coverage will begin at 3 p.m., and live timing and scoring can be viewed at IMSA.com
