Corvette Racing Looking To Defend GTLM Lead At VIR

Corvette Racing drivers Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia will be defending their TUDOR United Sportscar Championship GTLM lead this weekend at the Oak Tree Grand Prix at VIR. BMW Team RLL’s Bill Auberlen and Dirk Werner currently trail Magnussen and Garcia in the standings by just four points, making VIR a pivotal race as the end of the season draws closer.

Unlike many TUDOR USCC races, the Oak Tree Grand Prix will feature GT cars only, with the Prototype and Prototype Challenge cars sitting the race out before Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of the Americas next month. This gives Corvette Racing the opportunity to lock down their second overall event win, with the first being the 2001 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Garcia and Magnussen’s strongest competition at VIR could very well be the No. 4 C7.R of teammates Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin. Not only is Gavin confident in he and the team’s abilities heading to VIR, Milner is a Virginia native and claimed his first professional pole position at the track in 2004 and also won a Grand-Am race there in 2005.

Catch Corvette Racing’s yellow ‘Vettes on FOX Sports 1 this weekend as they fight for the win at VIR. Live TV coverage is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET Sunday, with the green flag scheduled to come out at 1:05.
