Say hello to the very first spy photos of the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, courtesy of the fine folks at AutoGuide.
The 2017 Equinox will slim down, and ride on General Motors’ D2XX platform, sharing underpinnings with the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. The downsized 2017 Equinox will allow Chevrolet to add an unspecified, new midsize crossover to create a CUV strategy akin to the Escape, Edge and Explorer trio.
The 2017 Equinox will more than likely ditch the 3.6-liter V6 option and go fully turbocharged, borrowing the entry-level 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo from the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, and possibly adding a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine as a more powerful option.
Our best look at the 2017 Equinox is the 2016 Buick Envision, which rides on the same D2XX architecture. It gives us the best idea of how much smaller the Equinox will be, creating plenty of space for an in-between, midsize model to join the Chevrolet crossover lineup.

Sadly no interior shots.

Boy does this bad boy and the Acadia need an exterior refresh. So cautious and conservative. They’re like Ambien on wheels.
Is it me or is it that the box looks about the same size as the current model?
So what was the point of bringing the Trax to US market under Chevy, when it was already here as a Buick, but now the Equinox will downsize to something similar.
First off this is still larger than Trax size as they are on two different sized platforms.
By the looks of the photo’s the outside is reduced in size but the passenger compartments is not much smaller than the Nox in the photo’s.
I expect interior will retain a similar size only better packaged. I expect the outside dims to all shrink mostly in the nose. No need for V6 space if you are not offering it up front.
Look for at least 200 pounds in weight loss and possible up to 300. This will be key in overall performance and MPG.
The present models must not be too bad as they have increased sales each and every year since this style was introduced. Few models can match that record. It does leave a tough record to follow up with the new one.
The Nox has been one of the best and most profitable models GM has had in a long time. The new one will be as or even more important than the Malibu in my eyes with the increase in popularity of CUV models today.
Can’t wait for that “who shrunk my Nox” syndrom to set in as happened with 2013 Malibu.
Feeling like this model should have gotten a new name with the new half sizer holding on the ‘Nox moniker.
I just feel Luke from the looks of it it looks like the same size of the current model and that’s not a bad thing I wouldn’t think
The passenger areas looks similar but the nose looks like they have made it a little smaller. This would be easy for a 4 cylinder only model as you can take the extra room out from the V6.
I know with my Terrain there is a lot of wasted space inside. The dash is so deep that more room could be gain there and the rear suspension intrudes into the cargo area more than I like.
While some make a big deal of the moving rear seat I find you set it once and seldom ever move it. Neat idea but not something you use often. We set the seat back and just leave it.
I hope details like AC vents in the rear seat are added as little things like this are really needed. That has been one of the greatest complaints over at their forum.
Well honestly the current model is a big narrower as well
For mine I had to adjust the rear seat so the air vents in the front can let it flow to the back
The same engine line up as the new Malibu would be great for this car. 1.5 turbo for the base, a more sporty or premium trim with the 2.0 turbo, and an Eco conscious hybrid setup. Imagine a hybrid Equinox with combined MPG in the upper 30s, it would be a great green image booster. An engine line up like that would offer a larger array of options for consumers and fit more people’s needs.
The 2017 Equinox should be a hybrid (like the 2016 Malibu) or an EREV like the 2016 Volt.
Wish they would have hidden the rear wiper under the spoiler like the XT5 .
My 2012 Equinox LTZ has been an awesome vehicle. 55,000 miles to-date without any sort of problems and not even a rattle or squeak. I would like to see the next model eliminate the old foot-styled parking brake, use more soft-touch interior materials (particularly on the door where I rest my elbow) and have room for my golf clubs in back without folding half of the rear seat. Also, I hope they retain the huge rear legroom, one of my favorite features. Do all of this and I will be first in line for the 2017.
