Nope, the 2016 Sierra 3500HD doesn’t get any updates in the powertrain department; we expect those to arrive in 2017. But that doesn’t mean that Big Red’s biggest pickup truck isn’t getting some noteworthy changes and updates, which mirror those of the 2016 Sierra 2500HD.
To start, the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD deletes four colors and adds three new ones:
- Sonoma Red Metallic
- Fire Red
- Bronze Alloy Metallic
- Emerald Green Metallic
- Crimson Red Tintcoat Double Cab only
- Deep Garnet Metallic Crew Cab only
- Cardinal Red
The 2016 Sierra 3500 Heavy Duty also does away with two 18-inch wheel options and the I04 radio unit. It then adds the following equipment:
- Remote locking tailgate
- IntelliLink Radio audio system with 7″ color touch screen
- Wireless Charging
- A new power steering system with active hydraulic assist and recirculating ball
- HD Radio (returns after being deleted last year)
In addition, the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500 adds manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel to the SLE Convenience Package on Double and Regular Cab models, the Z71 Suspension Package will require 4WD, and the All-Terrain HD Package will now only be available on Crew Cab SLT models.
As we’ve already speculated, the exterior of the 2016 Sierra 3500 might get a refresh to keep it in line with the refreshed appearance of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. If so, the change isn’t showing up on the RPO-level change sheet.
