Those hoping for new engines in the 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD will be disappointed, as they’re not part of the changes and updates to the heavy duty truck. Instead, the 2016 Silverado 2500HD gets changes to its color palette, several new features, and some equipment changes, while keeping the same powertrain as the 2014 and 2015 models.
On the colors front, the 2016 Silverado 2500 does away with four colors and then adds three new ones:
Deleted Colors
- Deep Ruby Metallic
- Victory Red
- Brownstone Metallic
- Rainforest Green Metallic
New Colors
- Siren Red Tintcoat (Double Cab only)
- Butte Red Metallic (Crew Cab only)
- Red Hot
The truck then sees the addition of several new features, including Remote Locking Tailgate, MyLink radio/audio system with 7-inch color touch screen in place of the IO4 Audio System, HD Radio, and wireless smartphone charging. The 2016 Silverado 2500 Heavy Duty also see a new power steering system with active hydraulic assist and recirculating ball. Two wheel options are replaced by two new ones — an 18-inch chrome set and a 20-inch 5-spoke forged polished aluminum set.
Rounding out the changes and updates are several modifications to the equipment groups:

When can I buy 2016???
I think they start production August or September. So shortly after that.
Why doesn’t Chevrolet offer the rubber lip in the fenders like GMC? I love the look of it
When in the world is GM going to address fuel economy in their HD pickup? Lots of HD truck owners care about fuel mileage too. It’s way past time to offer some more fuel efficient engines!!!!! How about a gas engine that gets more than 12mpg around town. Or a diesel that has a fuel economy mode. LONG OVERDUE!!!
Agree with you Al, municipalities I think would be most concerned about mpg as they have tight budgets. But everyone would love an increase in mpg. Even if it got 16 mpg, it’s better than the 9-12 the 6.0 gets.
I would expect for 2017 we’ll see new engines. But these updates are nice to see. Since it got a new power steering system I’m sure that’s a hint about new engines.
IT IS A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK! LOT OF WEIGHT, GEARING AND TORQUE FOR A WORK LOAD. If you want fuel economy, you should buy a 1/2 ton and quit crying…..
You can buy the cng package, which if you get a residential fuelling unit will have a cost of 25 cents a gallon comparable. This way you can run off of either cng or gas. This will allow for tax credit and 900 mile range. If you drive as much as me, the cost will pay off in under a year with just the fuel savings.
Why is the 2016 gmc 2500 hd getting the new duramax diesel engine.
The 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is NOT getting anything new in the powertrain department. See here:

Gm is really behind times. Since no power train upgrade looks like I’m jumping to dodge. Sad thing is dodge had locking tail gate already
Chevy’s diesel power train is more than enough for over 98% of the guys who will buy it. Its a solid platform, and has had the bugs worked out of it….This is what matters when i am dumping 60 large into a truck. The other thing is people are crying about colors, and locking power tailgates?? Power tail gates can be added on. The color i can undertsand, because guys love certain colors, especially certain types of reds. I mean i am upset with Chevy’s handling of its infotainment system, and not making their systems backwards compatible for previous buyers…this is a shit move on Chevy’s end, but i need the truck for work, and to do the things its designed for. Dodge trucks are nicely equipped, unfortunately the truck falls apart around the drivetrain. As far as Fords go, i am a GM guy, but almost bought one instead of my ’15 LML. GM needs to upgrade the sheet metal, its wayyyy tooooo thin !!!!!!!
Yeah that Ram front end looks like a 1958 Edsel. Ugh.

Lev slutet januari hoppas jag.
I’m loosing my faith in GM, have been buying GM for 50 years, and gave in and sold my 2003 2500HD LT Xcab and bought a 2014 “Double cab” which I don’t like the looks of…why go to front door hinges..????? And now, my favorite color, Deep Ruby Red is going away….who are the people that make these decisions…?????? I know they don’t care, but will be loosing me as a loooooong time faithful customer.
They don’t care if you go to dodge or any where else.
Can’t believe no new engines for the HD I have a 2015 6.0 it’s a great engine but so outdated and under powered was hoping for some changes. Gm needs to get with it
I can’t believe there are no new motor offerings this year on the HD pickups.
The 1500’s with the new 6.2 and 8 speed get WAY better fuel economy and nearly the same tow rating as the 6.0 in the HD trucks. my trailer weighs 8,800 loaded and is at the max rating of my 5.3 1500. I need to upgrade so I have some cushion in my tow rating, but really wanted a 2500 HD with a smaller Duramax or a more powerfull & fuel efficient Vortec. I don’t want to pay $60k to tow my Toy Hauler six times a year, but I’m tired of getting 7 mpg getting to my destination. Sounds like the Duramax is my only option, even though it is total overkill.
Love it!
