Don’t kid yourself. If you reside where the white stuff comes down in bountiful amounts, you’ve taken your car to a parking lot to try a bit of sideways action for yourself, letting your inner-child hoonage run rampant.
That’s nearly what Holden has put on for media, except in a much more professional and organized matter. They’ve hired V8 Supercars star James Courtney to be the brand ambassador for the latest 2015 Holden Insignia VXR, and told him to flog the car around the Southern Hemisphere proving grounds. Stuff was invited along for a few hot laps in the 2015 Insignia VXR, and it looks incredibly fun.
The media stunt is a promotion for the newly introduced Insignia VXR, Holden’s latest addition from cousin Opel. Holden expects the car to act as a new hero vehicle as the brand transitions into a national sales brand, and 24 new models arrive before the year 2020.
As for the car, Courtney says he’s impressed with the capability the 2015 Insignia VXR offers, as the car was completely stock, only running a set of snow tires. But even snow tires don’t do much when the conditions are slick and icy.
The specs are identical to the Vauxhall and Opel cousins of the Insignia, something we long for in the U.S. as we make do with our Buick Regal GS. Powering the car around the twisty ice capades is the twin-turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 engine, producing 320 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, with power sent to an active all-wheel drive system.
Courtney makes the stunt look effortless as he saws away at the wheel, but even some of the best have a minor blemish, as he points out in the video. Follow the link here to watch for yourself.
