Sebastien Bourdais is tied for the seventh most IndyCar victories after driving to a dominant victory in the ABC Supply Wisconsin 250 at the Kentucky Mile Saturday night.
Sunday’s event ran under green for a long 114 laps before being interrupted by a yellow. Even then, the caution was only put out after James Jakes’ engine blew and came to a rest at turn four. Soon after, two big names were taken out of the race, with Team Penske teammates Ryan Briscoe and Will Power crashing out on Lap 130.
As racing resumed on Lap 141, Bourdais battled with second place’s Simon Pagenaud, while a fierce battle between Graham Rahal and Marco Andretti also played out behind them. Bourdais was eventually able to widen his lead over Newgarden, who was now in second, but soon pitted and temporarily handed the position back to the Sarah Fisher Hartman driver.
By the time Bourdais made his second pit stop, he had widened his lead by a significant amount. The Team Chevy driver entered the pits in first and was able to exit in the top position. Following a third caution on Lap 222, Bourdais held off a hard charging Juan Pablo Montoya for the win.
IndyCar heads to Iowa Speedway next for the Iowa Corn 300. Juan Pablo Montoya currently leads the drivers’ standings with 439 points, while Scott Dixon and Graham Rahal trail with 385 and 370, respectively.
