It’s something even the Corvette team has flirted with for so many years: a mid-engined Corvette. Dreaming aside, it seems more plausible than ever we will be graced with a true, world-beating supercar in the form of a mid-engined Corvette Zora. Or maybe even Corvette Manta Ray, as patent filing show.
Today, we have another look at what a mid-engined Corvette Zora could look like, courtesy of Corvette Blogger. The artist responsible has penned what the transformation from C7 Corvette, to mid-engined Corvette, could look like should the design take a truly evolutionary step in design.
It’s not our favorite design we’ve seen of a possible mid-engined Corvette, as we’d like to see a design that incorporates classic Corvette cues, but with a new approach. After all, if General Motors signs off on a program for a mid-engined Corvette, you’d better believe the team should be itching to crawl outside of the rear-wheel drive, front-engined box. Especially with those guys in Dearborn debuting their latest mid-engined machine.
Something like the sketch we spied in an interview with Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global design, seems more fitting.
What do you think? Should the design be something as evolutionary as this? Or, should it take a more radical turn? Talk to us down below.

I would prefer a more radical Design in every way. It needs to be the leader in its class with no compromise in any area. My thinking is that it will be produced along with the Front Engine Vett instead of as a replacement. That is why I think it should be Revolutionary instead of Evolutionary.
The green house on this one is similar to the mule we saw earlier. As for the rest it is pure speculation.
I did have a talk with someone who claimed he had connections. He said he was told of a TT V8 that is pending for this car. Not sure how reliable this is but there has been a TT V8 in testing already confirmed. Might be interesting where this goes.
The one thing you need to understand is some of the styling from the C7 will carry over as it has to look like a Corvette. Second it will not get too silly as it still has to be street driven. This is not going to be a Million dollar super car that can afford all the little options like a lifting front end to get in steep drives.
The real question is this going to be a $150K car or $300K car?
The real targets here is to kick the Ford GT’s Ass and also kick about any Ferrari this side of the Laferrari’s Ass. The Corvette has already turned into the affordable super car and while the price will climb a little we should still see an car that will hunt cars twice its price.
I think the important thing is not get in a horsepower war with Euro supercars and end up making an overpowered smoke generator. If they could hit the ground running and make the Pagani Huayra look like a front wheel drive sedan, and not be overly expensive, they’d have a hell of a car.
