Update: the video has been deleted and is no longer available.
Back in the 1970s, the Marines Corps Reserves needed to find a way to get more young men to enlist. And what would be the most popular way to do that? Make a commercial, of course.
The ad shows what any typical ’70s man would want: the beach, girls, and a super snazzy Chevrolet C3 Corvette.
A few good men, that’s all the Marine Corps Reserves were for.
A lot can be said about that statement but alas, this isn’t a political debate. If it were, however, a possible question might be, “is a salesman persuading a young man to buy a brand new 2016 Chevrolet Corvette the same thing as a recruiter persuading a young man to join the reserves?” Are they both wrong, is one worse than the other, is there nothing wrong with either of them, or does the answer lie somewhere in the middle of those three options?
We would really like to hear what you have to say about it all, and we encourage you to share your thoughts after you’ve watched the video clip below.
