Jeff Gordon will once again be the ‘Rainbow Warrior, unveiling a recreation of his iconic rainbow paint scheme to be used in this year’s Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol. The four-time Sprint Cup champ debuted the multi-color scheme on sponsor Axalta’s Twitter account, and soon after drove the car down West 57th Street in Manhattan on Tuesday’s episode of CBS This Morning.
The rainbow paint scheme adorned Gordon’s car from the beginning of his NASCAR career in 1992 to 2000. The different accomplishments Gordon achieved while in the rainbow-colored car are significant and include winning Rookie of the Year, 3 championships, the Sprint All Star race and more. He also drove to 52 wins, 166 top tens, 129 top fives and led over 10,000 laps in the rainbow Chevy.
Gordon, who currently sits 11th in the driver standings in his final full time Sprint Cup season, said fans’ desire to have him run the rainbow scheme once more helped make its return possible. Catch it on track on August 22 for the highly anticipated Bristol Night Race, and head on over to Gordon’s site for additional info on the rainbow scheme and related fan gear.
