GM Order Guide Hints At 2016 Cadillac ATS Vsport

So here are two interesting items from GM’s order guides for the 2016 Cadillac ATS Sedan:

Items Of Interest From 2016 Cadillac ATS Sedan Order Guide
Free-Flow RPO Code Description
5LQ LPO, Slotted Brake Rotor and Pad Upgrade Package
VVX LPO, Vsport Red Brake Caliper, Slotted Rotor and Pad Upgrade Package

The 5LQ is not available with Vsport Red Brake Caliper, Slotted Rotor and Pad Upgrade Package (VVX), and the VVX is not available with the Slotted Brake Rotor and Pad Upgrade Package (5LQ) nor the 17″ x 8″ polished aluminum wheels (Q5W). What’s more, the order guide for the 2016 Cadillac ATS Coupe does not have either the 5LQ nor the VVX options.

The GM Authority Take

The references to a Vsport Red Brake Caliper, Slotted Rotor and Pad Upgrade Package is quite interesting, as it appears to be the beginning of a full-fledged trim level of an ATS Vsport trim level to join the third-generation Cadillac CTS Vsport.

  1. The ATS-V should have been dubbed the ATS V-Sport and the ATS-V should have been V8 LT1 powered. I am shaking my head at how stupid GM is by not offering a V8 in a V-Series vehicle like the ATS-V. The lack of a V8 powered ATS is a big complaint among us current CTS-V owners. They aren’t going to get rid of their big monster V8s for a twin turbo V6 no matter how good GM and the automotive press says the ATS-V is. The V-Series from day was always powered by a V8. Just makes zero sense. The ATS was designed with a V8 in mind and the V8 would have been easier to install in the ATS’ engine bay according to GM Engineers.

    1. There is rumor of an ATS-V + which would be equipped with the LS7 V8. A Mercedes C63s Fighter you could call it. Nobody knows for sure yet. I would hope it would cost a lot more for the ATS-V + because everyone would choose that over the V6 haha

      1. This rumor was already put to bed by GM. They already came out and said no LS7 equipped ATS is coming.

  2. If it has a V8 may as well buy the CTS for just a little more and get a super charger. Or better yet a Camaro SS and save money.

Now if you they had their own V8 at this point you might get away with it but just to put a Camaro engine in where is the attraction vs. a hand built AMG engine.

Cadillac is trying to be more than just a fancy Chevy and offer more than a Chevy would offer. People in this segment often look to technology and something different.

Also the future holds that not all Cadillac’s will not be V8 model cars just as the ATS is now.

Right now we are in a transitional period where the Chevy engines are going away and we will see more move to a real Cadillac engine. This is key. Just as The Pontiac engine was the heart and Soul of Pontiac the Cadillac will be to it. Other wise you just have a fancy Chevy in the eyes of many.

Not knocking Chevy as it is a great engine but many Pontiac people bought Pontiac because they loved the engines differenced over the Chevy. Many refused in later years as Pontiac just became a fancy Chevy to them.

Just shoving a Chevy engine in everything is not going to fix all the issues. Just ask Olds and Pontiac.

    1. I see where they are going, but it’s nice to have a Corvette engine equipped Cadillac for some good power. The only way to get a V8 based ATS is to get a 6th gen Camaro SS since they will both be Alpha based. Until Cadillac has their own engines, they should at least try to appeal to the current V-Series owner that wants and loves the V8. An ATS with a V8 would be an awesome driving machine. Cadillac doesn’t have to follow BMW with everything they do.

      1. I can see you have not driven the TT V6 yet. The Turbo engines all are very fine to drive and only really lack in sound and the number count for those who are fixated on that.

Some of the best race cars in the world were turbo 4 and 6 cars. Just look at how many indy 500 races were won with an Offy 4.

Power is power and best to enjoy them all and not just focus on cylinder counts.

GM is already getting hit for the CTS and ATS looking alike now you want to use pretty much the same drive lines? You have to change this up somewhat.

  3. Last I checked the upcoming CTSV is Still V8/Supercharged & a better version! The ATSV is designed for a different market.

  4. So what will the engine and bhp be for this v sport? Tune the turbo 4 to more power?

    1. At this point Cadillac’s plans have changed and who knows there may be or may not be a V sport till they get their own engines.

The Cadillacs as we see it today including the CT6 are not the future of Cadillac. All that changed last year and we will transition through this for a couple years till they can get the new cars and engines done.

To be honest as good as these cars are the present management has won vs. GM saying they are not good enough. That is a very positive sign they finally are serious as wit the money they are getting and support to do as they feel is needed.

    2. Nope, the V sport will be competing with Mercedes C450 AMG sport, Audi S4 and BMW 340xi, so it will have to have a turbo V6, most likely a 3.0

  5. I lease a 2013 ATS 2.0t and love it! Vsport ATS sounds good to me…..

    1. Too many people underestimate the Turbo 4 as they have never driven an Eco Turbo. Of 250 HP or more.

  6. I own an ATS 2.0t and the power delivery is very nice! However, with the new 3.6L V6 slated to come in 2016 models, I fear that the the efficiency of the V6 will outperform the Turbo I4 (yes, even if Turbo I4 model’s will come with the 8-Speed too). To even make the 2.0t I4 relevant after that, they would need to update it with the new cylinder design, vvt with intermediate park feature, stop/start, and better nvh. The 2.5L I4 definitely needs to go and be replaced by a 1.6t I4 with 200HP and 220LB-FT.

For a V-Sport, I would absolutely love to see that rumored 2.7t V6 under the hood making about 350HP and 350LB-FT. 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds and easily up to 20 City and 30 Highway. I hope Cadillac can make it happen!

    1. The NA 2.5 definitely needs to go, it is too noisy and unrefined for a luxury car, but I don’t agree with a 1.6T. The 2.0T should be the base engine, at least in North America, and a small turbo V6 (maybe 2.7 or even 3.0) for the ATS V sport. This is primarily a performance luxury sedan, competing against the best from Germany, so a 1.6T doesn’t make sense to me, that should be reserved for the Chevy Cruze

  7. I’m personally wishing for it to be AWD with an eLSD, MRC, V6 3.0L twin turbo and the possibility of choosing between a 6 speed manuel or an 8 speed automatic transmission. I would actually also like to see Cadillac’s engineers to add that AWS system that can be found in the CT6 to the ATS-V, just to give it the extra edge over that ATS V-Sport I just described

  8. 86 the NA 4 and use a 270 HP as the base and offer a 320 HP as the 4 option. It would be easy to do as the engine and tranny are not even near their peak. The only thing it would do is make Premium Required and that should not be an issue in this price class. This is not a Malibu.

  9. Very few things make me consider buying new over waiting a couple years and buying used for much less. Recently the camaro has entered that possible realm for me. Provided it lives up to the hype. However I would rather buy a Cadillac as its my favorite signature in my loyalty and stubbornness to only own GM . Yet the only options that make me feel that way inside are ideas like TT V8 CT6 & ATS-V V8 preferably N/A LS7 or something new just for them. Though I would consider the supercharged V8 . But not preferably. Until then I will continue ignoring NEW and continue enjoying used prices on V2 wagons UNDER$40K,STS-V UNDER$20K … C6 Z06 under $35k , low miles super clean C5 Z06 under or around$25k , and low miles V1 LS2 models under$25k along with last generation Escalade always black under$25k … These are my go to choices and what I continue to rotate through as well as sell my friends and associates on. Until GM wows me with something like an LS7 ATS-V for HOD&HPDE days I would say the closest you will find me to purchasing new and over priced is a 2014 crew cab Sierra 6.2 with LEATHER bench SLE (OH WAIT they don’t offer that) see my frustrations…

    1. The Mk2 LS block, and all of its variants, has been discontinued. Its replacement is the de facto Mk2 LT block.

      There won’t ever be an LS7 ATS-V.

  10. I would purchase a ATS V+ in a minute if they put the 7.0 liter 427 small block between the shock towers. This is an exceptional engine, with phneominial power and tried and true reliability. Putting this into the new Alpha formatted ATV would make a highly competitive piece that could dominate it’s market. I own a 2013 GT-500 and a 2014 Z/28 both cars are impressive but the Z is more mundane in the comfort areas. No navigation, poor radio simple interior. To have the handling, braking performance, and the 7.0 Liter engine of the Z/28 but with all the luxury options available in the ATV catalog would be fantastic. Plus you could then go M3. M5. E63, RS6, RS7 and 911 hunting.
