General Motors has appointed Markus Leithe to the role of Managing Director Middle East Commercial Operations. The appointment is part of GM’s strategy for further growth in the Middle East.
In his new role, Leithe will be responsible for leading the sales and marketing operations for the Chevrolet and GMC brands in the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Yemen.
Having spent the last four years in executive leadership roles with GM Middle East, Leithe is no stranger to the Arabian market. His previous role was as the Director of Vehicle Sales and Service Management, and his career with GM dates back to 1998 where he has also held leadership positions with GM Europe.
“We’ve seen 13% growth in the markets which Markus is now responsible for in the first half of the year. As we plan to build on this growth, it is essential that we have a proven leader such as Markus to drive this strategy forward,” said Mario Spangenberg, President and Managing Director for GM Africa and Middle East Operations.
And with the steady growth in the auto industry so far in 2015, the outlook for the rest of the year is bright for the automaker.
“With Markus at the helm, he will bring renewed focus to our brands and operations. As interest in our products continues to expand, he will be at the forefront of our approach to ensure we are well equipped to accommodate and serve a growing number of Chevrolet and GMC owners,” Spangenberg added.
