General Motors is recalling certain units of its Lambda-platformed full-size crossovers — the Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook — over a potential issue with the power liftgate option.
The defect: affected vehicles are equipped with the power liftgate option, which is held open by gas struts. These struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall.
The hazards: if the open liftgate unexpectedly falls, it may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury.
Affected vehicles:
Manufacturer | Make | Model | Model Years | Production Range |
---|---|---|---|---|
General Motors | Chevrolet | Traverse | 2009-2012 | July 6, 2008 – February 29, 2012 |
General Motors | Buick | Enclave | 2008-2012 | January 3, 2007 – February 29, 2012 |
General Motors | GMC | Acadia | 2007-2012 | September 15, 2006 – February 29, 2012 |
General Motors | Saturn | Outlook | 2007-2010 | August 17, 2006 – March 18, 2010 |
Number of vehicles affected: 686,287.
The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power liftgate actuator motor unit so that the motor will prevent the rapid closing of the liftgate free of charge to the owner. GM has not yet provided a notification schedule.
Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this GM recall should visit recalls.gm.com. There, owners will be able to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs. If the vehicle is part of the recall, customers should take it to a General Motors dealer.

I have read so many problems with the A/C actuator doors on the Chevy Traverse. This is a default that needs to be fixed at GM’s expense. When so many people have issues with the same thing it is not user issues, but rather a manufacture defect and should be treated as such.
Does this recall not address these issues?
I had mine fixed already. 2011 Chevy Traverse LTZ now my hatch opens, then closes right away, opens again and then closes again. What is going on here. And the whole AC actuator door. Yeah. … let’s not go there. This needs to be recalled as well. And repairs refunded.
I had mine fixed couple of weeks ago. I had no problem before but now it clunks when it opens and sometimes drifts down. I cracked my head on it twice today due to it slowly falling.
I had mine “fixed” and when i was getting ready to trade in, low and behold it starts to open then closes right away again. They didn’t change any parts, they only “reprogrammed” the motor per the paperwork. I just called the dealer repair service and they say, I am right they didn’t the steps are to first “reprogram” and if that fixes it they don’t have to change anything out.
NOW my hatch open partly then closes again, without even going all the way up and I was just told, bring it back up and we will check it and it if DOES NOT LINK TO THE RECALL, they will need to do more testing. GO FIGURE….. my car wasn’t doing this when I took it in, and now mysteriously this happens. NOT HAPPY!!!!!!
I have to fix my 2009 Chevy Treverse Transmisson the car is 5 years old and the repair shop has these type of small chevy, buick ,cadilac suv’s with the same problem and they are newer cars I am a chevy guy but I might change cars models once I make that big repair payment. I think GM should recall all the transmission on these cars.
Mike I have a 2009 Traverse and GM repaired the tranny free of charge due to losing reverse, 3rd and 5th gears I think. I received a notice in the mail stating they will cover this until 100,000 miles I believe. So you might want to check into it.
