Tuners around the country are currently locked in a heated battle as they try to pry more and more horsepower from the supercharged LT4 found in the C7 Corvette Z06. And as outputs rise ever higher, it’s easy to get lost in the head-spinning numbers (proof: here, here and here).
However, we’d like to draw attention back to another key area of contention between these differently endowed beasts: the sound that emanates from the four pipes out back.
GM’s factory engineers went to great lengths to create the symphony that is the Z06’s raspy howl yet, that does that mean it can’t be improved? Of course it doesn’t.
Just watch the video below of a Corvette Z06 tuned by Dream Makers Automotive in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and try not to smile like a grinning lunatic. It’s impossible.
The DMA squad threw in about a half dozen modifications. These include Kooks headers, Kooks Catted X-pipe, a supercharger pulley upgrade, an Innovators West harmonic balancer, and a Corsa Performance exhaust. As a result, this doctored-up Corvette Z06 is good for a healthy 750 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque.
It explodes down the road like it was fired out of a dynamite-powered trebuchet. Move the slider to 0:59-seconds and you’ll see.
Each subsequent stab of the gas summons the roar of 10,000 chainsaws and the seemingly relentless heave towards the horizon is interrupted only so the driver can slam home another gear. It’s a feral snarl, an unholy cacophony of anger that’s sure to cause small children to cower in fear.
Is this the best C7 Z06 you’ve heard thus far? If not, we’d love to see the links to your own personal choices in the comments below.
